Memory card, no. It comes installed with a Unibios 3.0, and it does nearly everything the hard dips and everything the soft dips are able to do. If you are concerned about saving your progress, just use the cheat feature. Read all about it here. http://unibios.free.fr/whatisit.html

simply get an mvs convert for your aes. ye sit may cost 200$ but you save out the money very quickly and an aes doesn't take up much space

The cheap ones are the common ones. I mentioned the 6 most common AES carts in my first post... you can find those games for like $25 each.

EDIT: That's $25 bucks... with the box and manual.

    EDIT AGAIN: Proof: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEO-GEO-AES-...item27bcbcc236

Samurai Shodown 2, with box and manual, for $25.

FWIW, SamSho 2 is my all-time favorite SNK game period. That SamSho2 didn't get ported everywhere makes it's low price all the more appealing. Definitely worth the price of entry just for that game, IMO. It's the Neo Geo's "killer app" for me, the same way that SSF2T is the killer app for the CPS2.
metal slug isn't an early aes cart

    Funny this thread came up...

I should be receiving my very own Neo Geo AES unit CIB sometime this week. This is the last system I needed for my collection, and I got it for a very good price. However, I'm pretty much a babe in the woods when it comes to collecting for the unit and I had a few questions:

    1) I'm going to get a UniBIOS installed, and I'll probably mod the unit for s-video. Any other internal mods anyone would suggest?
    2) I know the AES library is stupidly expensive - anyone have a MVS converter, and if so, is it worth the high price tag?
    3) Off of that, anyone ever use the 1xx-in-1 multicarts, and if so, how do they compare to the original games?
    4) Also off of that, what's the biggest issue in designing a decent flash cart?

    Thanks!

What serial number is it? If it is below 100K you may just use a SCART cable like I do and just get the converter so you don't have to hack up your Neo Geo. If not go COMPONENT out, so much better than S-Video.

Buy the latest MVS converter and then purchase a Multicart, saves you thousands. They are identical and you can even save the game with the Memory Card, the Neo is 100% fooled but some games do have glitches.

Flash carts are expensive enough, for the Neo it would be crazy expensive.

Stereo mod, which is a piece of cake. The AV out only supports mono, or you could use the headphone jack. Also, use a socket with the Unibios, Razoola updates it fairly often. If you want to be a badass wire the AV out to the din connector and make custom cables so you don't hack the case. I have a system like this.

I've had a few Phantom 1's, and they get the job done but have some issues. There are other converters, but all of them have issues except for that one converter that the dude on Neo-Geo.com sells for $400. However, the P1 can be fixed to work with everything and you have the skills to do it. With your skills, you could probably just buy a one slot motherboard and make a CMVS yourself for less money.

Eh, it's a chinese bootleg. You get what you pay for, but half the games either don't work or are hacks. I still want one one of these days.

So many chips and different configurations for the games!

I have the 161 in 1 multi cart. A great deal of the games on the multi-cart are indeed Chinese bootlegs. Personally I have not experienced any major issues with it. I just try and stay away from the boots. No Nam 75, Magician Lord or Ninja Combat though if you are looking to play those.

I purchased a used Neo_Geo AES system with Samurai Shodown and Fatal Fury for $200 back in 95 in high school. It came with one controller A/V cord, but non-functioning AC adaptor.

I ordered an AC adaptor from SNK and was good to go! I really liked the system, but games were so damn expensive! It also kept re-starting itself in the middle of the game everytime I played. I couldn't figure out how I could properly clean that really big cart slot, but I tried. Eventually I traded it in out of frustration and since all the great games of that system were ported over well to other systems.

My question though is why was the Neo-Geo AES system sooo expensive back in the day and even still??

Back in the day, it was expensive mostly because the hardware was not cheap to produce. The cartridge PCBs are huge, containing numerous ROM and mapping chips, compared to typical cartridges of the day like the SNES and Genesis, which had only one or two ROMs and sometimes a mapping chip (almost all Genesis carts have no mapper chip). The system itself was basically a consolized MVS of today, very few changes were made to the hardware, resulting in an expensive to produce console.

These days, home system games are expensive because they've held their value well and collectors don't have any trouble paying those prices. However, there's lots of early NGH games that are are very common, some being under $50 each. Loose home carts are also pretty cheap.
