Absolutely love the song. I don't care much for Keith Apicary, but that song is fucking awesome.
I don't have a Neo Geo cabinet, but I do have a MAME cabinet, and I could pop my Supernova and 1-slot MVS into it and turn it into a "real" neo geo cabinet... but it just wouldn't be the same.
Thread from when I built my cabinet
If I ever got another machine, it would likely be a dedicated red MVS cabinet, with a 24 hz monitor. Those types of monitors will support 15 hz boards (the jamma standard) but they'll also support Model 2 boards, which require the very uncommon 24 hz monitor. I have a Sonic the fighters board, but I can't test or run it because I don't have any sort of monitor to run it on.

Nice cabinet! By the way, I noticed a red star on the wall, are you a communist or something?![]()
That's the Texas star, you can find them for sale all over the state. It's actually maroon because it belonged to my sister, who is an (lmfao) aggy (how fucking sad).
I have a matching one in glorious burnt orange, because I'm not a hick and didn't go to cow college.

Actually thats exactly what it is about, supply and demand... At a ridiculous level. Neo Geo games also seem to retain their value better than other collectibles, since the cult following is so rampant and insists on seeing them as "investments" and the most serious ones i believe wont even play the games, those that do, even removes the top half of their AES to avoid "insertion markings"...
I curse the fact i had a chance to get Samurai Spirits Zero Special (unfixed), but was unable to source the funds, for the AES at around $360 in 2004.. they go for like 800ish give or take now.. Way beyond my reach. At least i have a multi-cart with that version on there. The MVS cart of SS Zero Special ive seen for like $400...
The initial higher price for AES games compared to other systems, has to do with manufacturing costs coupled with much lower quantities for the AES carts.. Where super nintendo and megadrive games maybe sold 100000 copies, the Neo maybe sold 500-1000. But dont quote me on that since im not a production numbers expert. Also, initially, the MVS were the expensive carts, the AES was cheaper at release. Thus they made different carts so arcade owners couldnt buy the cheaper AES carts to put in their cabinets. Now its turned around, oh the irony...
For the price of one of those mvs converters you can buy a real mvs set up lol.
i have an mvs board with unibios chip,a homemade supergun and pc power supply, the whole set up is very messy and takes up a lot of room under my tv but its the real deal and cheaper than AES,i probably paid just over $150 for this set up.
Yes i would like the artwork and packaging of the AES games but you have to be realistic, some AES titles are just too expensive to justify, consider this before jumping into the aes because you see the cheap titles like fatal fury and samurai spirits and think the prices will be reasonable.
Are the early Neo-Geo AES carts the 'cheap' ones, as a general rule?
The slop and mess of building a super gun is the main reason why I simply bought a MAS Supernova instead. I guess I could have built everything into a nice setup (I clearly have carpentry skills, as I built an arcade cabinet) but I just couldn't devote the time.
For comparison, here is my old supergun setup running primal rage:
Not exactly the most play-friendly. By contrast, this is my MAS Supernova playing Marvel vs Capcom:
(why I took the pic in the laundry room, I have no idea what I was thinking...)
I might snap some pics of the inside a bit later on... it's not quite simply passive wiring like most superguns, as it has an audio booster, 2 different video converters, and a power adapter built in. It also came with a speaker on the thing, which I disabled and routed through some RCA connections on the back, so I could hook it up to my stereo.
This isn't my pic (I don't have any pictures of my MVS or ST-V online) but it gives you an idea of what a MAS Supernova with a 1-slot mvs looks like:

No, some of them are hyper expensive, like Metal Slug.
The cheap ones are the common ones. I mentioned the 6 most common AES carts in my first post... you can find those games for like $25 each.
EDIT: That's $25 bucks... with the box and manual.
EDIT AGAIN: Proof: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEO-GEO-AES-...item27bcbcc236
Samurai Shodown 2, with box and manual, for $25.
FWIW, SamSho 2 is my all-time favorite SNK game period. That SamSho2 didn't get ported everywhere makes it's low price all the more appealing. Definitely worth the price of entry just for that game, IMO. It's the Neo Geo's "killer app" for me, the same way that SSF2T is the killer app for the CPS2.
