You're right, Donpachi looks better on PS1 too.

I thought DonPachi was only better on Playstation in tate mode, and yoko mode is messed up somehow?

As for DoDonPachi, the Saturn version's bonus level is pretty worthless, IMO.

See this: http://www.racketboy.com/retro/pheno...shmups-library He also says that Dodonpachi also has better graphics on PS1 than Saturn. Specifically, Strikers 1945 1 and Donpachi look better on Saturn, while their sequels Dodonpachi and Strikers 1945 II look better on PS1.

In the Hunt also has much less slowdown on PS1 than Saturn, and has backup save and a CD audio soundtrack option too, two things that don't exist on the Saturn release.
play Dodonpachi in tate mode on the Saturn and you have to be a complete nerd to make out the differences, bar the sound (where the PS version wins out)

Like I said the '1' PS 2D game that really was better in almost every area , btw you played Daruis Gaiden on the PS . Play it for a laugh and any jokes about Saturn versions of In the Hunt and Dodonpachi are forgotten

Here's a list I have of Saturn ports that are mostly worse than some other version: http://626535750121256080.weebly.com...-inferior.html
Please comment if you know any of this is incorrect, got the info from racketboy and various other sources (they sometimes contradict each other).

Do you have interest in more info/expand that list? I have a lot of info that I'd be willing to share.
What is there seems to be alright AFAIK but I wouldn't really include the PS2 compilations. They're emulation and don't do justice to the original material. At least, I wouldn't imply that the PS2 versions are always superior to the Saturn's or equivalent to the Neo Geo ones.

@Barone: Absolutely, though my priority is on 2D games. Go ahead man

Well I'm not trying to imply that at all. I haven't played any of them so I wouldn't know.

Here's the parent page btw: http://626535750121256080.weebly.com...ile-ports.html

Time to get to the bottom of this I'd like to get it finished soon since it's been on hiatus for way too long (and by that I mean "include every game that I'd want to play").

It's pretty basic right now because I'm essentially gathering research. I plan on turning what gets listed into a full blown article for Racketboy detailing the differences and pros and cons of each arcade port available on the system.

Honestly I'd say from that list on Racketboy that DoDonpachi should be in the Arcade Port list, not the conversion one. Sure the PS1 port is better, the Saturn port is still an acceptable port when compared to the Arcade. From what people say on shmups.system11.org, the Saturn port is worse than the PS1 port, but still on par with the Arcade. Speed wise it's closer to the Arcade's slowdown, and in Tate mode the graphics are acceptable. Basically the issues are minor enough to overlook.

yes philips is from the netherlands, but above all there was lots of marketing here and people didn't buy it as a videogame console but as a vcd player and later many games were released. I for one own a cdi game that's from 1999. so it was out there for a long time since release in 1991.

    Hmmm, quite interesting!

Does anybody know how many ps1 games came in long boxes and how rare they are? I almost never see them, while I see plenty of Saturn and sega cd games in long boxes..

Pretty much just the 1995 releases of PS1 games have long boxes, maybe some early 1996 releases as well.

Sega should have followed Sony's example and ditched the longboxes for jewel cases. I hate longboxes

No, it's unbiased analysis. The only fanboyism is people who claim that Hyperstone Heist and Bloodlines are actually as good as their SNES counterparts.
