My experience as well. I've never seen an unbroken SCD/Saturn long case outside of pictures.
We don't break them - they COME broken from the store. Back when SCDs were still being sold, I had a store employee show me a shipping box when I asked if they had a game with an unbroken case - every case in the box was broken, and more than half were smashed to the point that they just went straight into the trash. They ordered blank long boxes from a supplier to replace the broken ones, and those arrived in almost the same condition. They made due with cases with one or two cracks, and no more than one broken hinge.
Big boxes are certainly easier to read from a distance, but I prefer slim cases - you can read them just fine from the distance you normally stand from the shelves - about an arm's length.I like long boxes because I can see the game title on the spine from more than six inches away and it reminds me that I like that game and ought to play it. Jewel cases are only a little bit better than disk only at reminding me I actually have that game.![]()
