No, I would not say that the Saturn's library of 2D fighters surpasses the Neo Geo. The Saturn didn't get nearly as many stellar Neo Geo fighting titles - there is no Kof 98, no Garou Mark of the Wolves, no Samuari Shodown 2 or 4, no Last Blade, etc. The Neo Geo alone has an outstanding 2D library that no other single console was able to match.

Now, comparing the Saturn to, say, the CPS2? That's a more fair comparison, and depending on how much you like Neo Geo Games, you could make an argument that it's superior to the CPS2.

This ignores 3D fighting games for the obvious reasons.

Well, I'd say the Saturn's 2D Fighting Library tends to have more third party variety, which is understandable considering a good bulk of the Neo Geos library comes from SNK. Not that that's a bad thing for the Neo Geo, but if one doesn't like SNK fighters they probably wouldn't be that satisfied with the Neo Geo as opposed to the Saturn. So I'd say they can even each other out depending on taste.

I'd personally say the 3 systems to own for 2D fighters would be the Saturn, Dreamcast, and the Neo Geo. If you own those you're pretty much set for the 1990-2002 era of 2D Fighters.

I accounted for the greater range of 3rd party offerings (which is why I'd put it above the CPS2, for example) but the sheer number of titles the neo geo offers alone is far greater than the entire saturn's 2D library of fighters, 3rd party included. Plus there is immense variation in gameplay and fighting systems within the Neo Geo Library. Compare Last Blade 2 to Mark of the Wolves to Samurai Shodown 2 to KoF 98. They might all be superficially fighting games, but they are all worlds different. The Neo Geo has something for every type of 2D fighting game enthusiast. Looking for something a bit more technical akin to SF3? Go with Mark of the Wolves. Want your vanilla street fighter 2 clone? You have world heroes perfect and fatal fury special. Need a modern Street Fighter Alpha clone? Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 to the rescue. Heck, want a more modern brainless capcom fighting game on the Neo Geo? You have SNK vs Capcom. Even the vs series has an equivalent in KoF 2002.

I give the edge to the Neo Geo by sheer breadth alone. The Saturn and Dreamcast are solid rivals, but they don't have the depth that the Neo Geo AES or MVS have.

Not to continue derailing this thread but I only met my girlfriend last year, and she was my first. Didn't stumble much, not really rocket science.

I had the same problem, too mature for my age when I was younger (well, even now looking at some of my friends), I could have had a casual relationship with a girl before but at the time I didn't want it. I regretted that later soo, might wanna consider it .

The Neo Geo is the king of fighting games, Saturn and PS aren't even in the same league.

so does almost any human being at later age. only you can't rewind time. that's why I advice what I did. feeling sorry about the things you didn't do is a hard lesson. religion doesn't matter either. this is nature and it's much stronger.

So why did the public largely ignore the Saturn in the US when games like fighters megamix were clearly superior to tekken which got so much attention?

You've only been dating a girl for a year max. Get back to me in 3 more years and tell me if you haven't stumbled once.

Gads, again?! This has been addressed a dozen times already. The Saturn is absolutely not a local favorite, the poll is statistically insignificant, and winning by a handful of votes doesn't mean the entire forum blindly favors Sega.

Obviously not the entire forum. This one poll doesn't determine that the Saturn is universally better than the PS, even though it is.

because the 32bit market only really opened in the usa and europe from 1997 onwards. by then nobody knew what saturn was basically and it's market share was so bad that it was already done for. I can tell at least from living in the netherlands that distribution was HORRIBLE.

sega fans in general, no doubt. this may sound like stupid but from my experience there is quite difference in general between sega fans and nintendo fans, in maturity and in looks I've meet number of them and in forums it's even worse.

I've been to arcades all over the country over the last 20-some years and NEVER seen a female playing. If they're there at all, they're standing behind some boy looking bored.

I've got a sister, and never once caught her playing any of the game consoles we had. When she eventually got married, I would visit on occasion and me and her husband would play a video game, but she never showed even the slightest inclanation of joining in on a game.
