Didnt know collecting games you dont play was frowned upon. Granted its not often but I have bought some games I havent played yet. Usually its because I dont have the console for it all set up and I gotta dig it out from somewhere and hook it up and and I'm too lazy and I dont want some old console just sitting around collecting dust if Im barely gonna play it.
Well then, please explain to me exactly what I would want to do with my life other than play video games? I play guitar from time to time, but that and video games are about it. I'm not the average person, I don't leave my house, and I don't socialize with anyone accept you guys.
The only way I'll buy games I have no intention of playing is if I start trying to 100% a system's library. And since I have neither the time, patience, interest, or disposable income to attempt such an endeavor, I'll continue not collecting for collection's sake.
That's what I thought too.
Now have a full time job and can't drive all over creation trying to find old games so much anymore. Also, eBay prices are just getting insane for anything decent.
I'll pick up a "new" game from time to time. But going out and hardcore collecting seemed to become such a grind.
OK, for those bore and tired with it, are you ready to sell part or all of your collection? I have a feeling that those who sell off some or all of their collection end up trying to get it back years later, only at much higher ebay prices.
It is finished!
I only collect to play. And aside from a few exceptions I only buy cheap stuff. The only thing that was bothering me about my collection is that it was taking up too much space, especially the last gen stuff. I solved that by giving away a ton of boxes/instructions to a game store. Having a CD wallet with 70+ PS2 games in it is awesome for me. It takes up very little room and it's filled with games I would want to play but aren't worth much. Most of my cartridges are loose copies anyway.
I don't have the time or energy to go all over town looking for games but I still check out ebay and some nearby stores. I'm still not sick of collecting. I just do it when it's convenient.
I also don't leave my house, I'm a hermit. I get home from work every day, put on pajamas and browse eBay for more games or catalog the ones I just received. It will wear on you, I guarantee it. My only other hobby is collecting and playing board games and playing disc golf with my friends on the few occasions that I do leave the house.
As I said before, I would gladly sell the whole thing if someone were willing to purchase it. And I'm already in the process of building a secondary collection of the games I want to keep.
Be Attitude For Gains!
I don't sell things, ever, I hoard video games. I really don't see how I could get tired of collecting things. If somebody offered me a million dollars, I still wouldn't sell it. There's nothing else I want, other than Vinyl records, vintage computers and other vintage electronics.
Exactly what else am I supposed to do with the little money I scrape up?
I got bored with collecting after I bought a copy of Bubsy one day about two years ago for something like 50 cents and after popping it in, realized that I would never play it.
Now It's becoming where I don't enjoy playing video games by myself anymore...
So far, I have:
- Atari 2600
- Colecovision
- NES
- Sega Master System
- Sharp Twin Famicom
- Sega Genesis
- Sega CD
- Sega 32X
- Turbografx-16
- Turbografx CD
- SNK Neo Geo AES
- Super Nintendo
- Duo-R
- PC-FX
- Sega Saturn
- Nintendo 64
- PS1
- Sega Dreamcast
- Nintendo Gamecube
Handhelds:
- Game Gear
- Game Boy Color
- Neo Geo Pocket Color
- Game Boy Advance
- Nintendo DS Lite
I think that's all of them.
Personally, I like to improve my house, exercise for a specific goal (usually martial arts related), and I like to socialize just to show myself I still can in real life. Believe it or not, the older folks I think, which I have seen you mention are predominant in your area, hold a lot more than mere worldly wisdom. They have almost all of the money and political power as well. Some day we will be them, so it is very much worth talking to them if for no other reason that to learn from their mistakes.
Also, too much entertainment makes all people weird to the point of being completely useless. Plato said it first several thousand years ago, we should focus more on society and personal improvement than entertainment unless we want to end up another one of the dead while young.

Eddie, do you know who Lukemorse is? He has a youtube channel where he shows quite interesting gaming products. A few years ago, his wife left him and took his son because he spend way to much time on these gaming stuff.
You can still collect anything you want, but don't let it be your only thing in as it might end up costing you something serious at the end.
