Defraggler is a free defragmentation program that actually gets the windows files themselves back into one fragment. I'd give that a shot first, and maybe consider going with Windows Defender / MS Security Essentials for anti-virus instead of whatever it is you are using. 45 seconds is a good startup time though.

That explains why your boot time is as good as it is. I think my Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit boot time has always been over thirty seconds. Total cycle time from hitting restart to seeing the desktop is at least a minute. I don't like shutting down services though, it just takes too much time to figure out what does what and the machine is my primary shared computer on my network. Gamebooster works really well for freeing up some resources when I want them though.

If you run defraggler and get it down to 0% fragmentation you are probably looking at the fastest boot time realistically possible.

A few years ago, I used to have an Antivirus on my Windows XP computer, and it took around 45 seconds to boot as well, and about 25 seconds to shut down, so one day, I completely uninstalled the antivirus from my computer, and now it boots up in 15 seconds, and shuts down in 7 seconds.

45 seconds isn't bad. There are many articles/methods of tweaking your Windows 7 startup/services, here's just one:

    Stay off the pr0n.

Regular defrags, and use CCleaner to clean your cache's out occasionally.

Put your stuff organised in folders, lots of shortcuts and files on your desktop there will slow your boot times.

Invest in ram, (SSD if you have the dolla $$).

Control what your doing carefully, do only a few things at once, rather than running lots of programs at once. Modern OS's and dual core cpu's multi-task fine but you will eat into ram and have lots of page outs into your harddisk bogging your computer down. I jumped from an ageing sloth Powerbook G4 to an i5 laptop, so even now with power to spare I'm very OCD with how much stuff I'm doing at one time since my old Powerbook was so slow.

Opening a shit tonne of tabs, playing music (iTunes is a resource hog on windows for example) then running Skype on top as an example can bog your computer down. Flash websites or videos like youtube will eat your processor cycles up, even if your not watching the video.

Flash is a DRM laden piece of shit anyway on Windows and Mac, but thats a whole other can of worms.

There is another option, but you may or may not be up for it. You could install a Linux Distro(i.e Ubuntu), and your computer would be a lot faster, I can guarantee it. You could look at at the porn you want, and not worry about getting a virus, and you'll never have to defrag your computer ever again. If you have a decent sized hard drive, and want to keep Windows, you could perform a "Dual-Boot", so you can have both Linux and Windows on the same hard drive, in two separate partitions. When the computer comes on, you just have to choose which OS you want to start up, and that's it.

I switched to Linux on one of my computers back in October, and never looked back. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life.
