Is there an FAQ somewhere for this... PR stunt or whatever it is? I haven't kept up at all with this and I'm just wondering if it's worth dividing some of my attention on. I hate internet-centric stuff like this. Why can't Watermelon just make a new game like every other developer?

It means that whilst you may be covering yourselves legally, some very important details are conveniently written in small writing, in a place most people will never look. For example: NO REFUNDS. That's important and should be stated up front. Do you really want to act like a bank?

This seems to be happening on a few occasions though. If you are 'like most companies' then you would realise the importance of individual members not making statements like that - it could easily be interpreted as official.

because this is the only way they can get the financial backing, they have decided this is the best way forward for WM

it also gets enthusiasts involved from the start, so they feel part of something new for a console that they love. is it unsurprising that more WM members aren't active on sega-16 when they look at most of the shit being spouted about their baby? they have obviously put a lot of time and effort into coming up with this idea and of course everything cant be perfect from the off, over time this project will turn out good for the community and when the game is released the initial investors can have a sense of satisfaction that they showed faith in a group of people collectively called Watermelon who produced an absolute triumph of a game called .....

Making games for old systems is risky from an economic point of view. This is pretty much just a clever way to gather donations. They really need to make a proper tutorial for it though, AND a F.A.Q.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy the game is being released and I think WM will produce a good one. I understand that these projects require financial investment. The problem is the complicated nature of the process and the lack of explanation - should we have to be asking all these questions? No, a lot of the issues raised should have been made clear from the start.

There are so many important details, putting all of them in big writing on the presentation page won't do. But yeah, I'll see if we can improve this. Thanks for the suggestion.

We can't put gags on our members, they have their rights as private persons as well. We only make official statements on our site and in interviews.

Well for one thing, going by your post I can certainly understand all the drama on the previous page. Even homebrew developers need a spine and constructive criticism, otherwise bad ideas sprout up.

I'm not one for throwing money at something that will inevitably be swayed by those with the bigger wallets though. I'd rather just donate to a pre-determined project by a no-nonsense developer instead. It's less headache for me and has a better chance at resulting in a good end product. The only thing that went wrong with Pier Solar was the unexpected 2 year delay and the presumption everyone was buying pre-orders. If WM could just do that but say "project donation/pre-order" instead, I think they'd be much better off. I want to buy a Watermelon game, not a commission-by-committee game.

Phosis and Joe nailed it though, Watermelon is showing exemplary foolishness with this funding idea. It'll crash and burn in the end, just watch.

I'm not a fan of this either but you can always just invest in project SF, which is already defined as a sci-fi ARPG.

No problem. I realise it wouldn't look good on the front page, but a tutorial would be good and (as Kamahl says) an FAQ.

Yes individual members can say whatever they want, but they have to realise the consequences of what they post.

fortunately or unfortunately, WM is the only option at the moment for new MD games so choice wise we have no other avenues apart from starting another developer, which is highly unlikely

That is a very bold statement to make...

For god sake. Look at everyone whining. If you don't like it don't invest. Simple. I thought everyone would be grateful that they are dedicating time to develop new games for the Mega Drive. apparently not! You do realise that cart games cant be made for free right?

Admins like Joe really put me off coming to Sega 16 now. Yes he has a right to voice his opinion but he puts it forward in such a disgusting way.

    I really hope this succeeds.

Well done watermelon for taking a risk :-). You can count on my investment for courage alone, especially having to deal with this lot.

Weren't you the guy who trashed Sik? Oh, OK.
As always, you're complaining about other people's opinions... Look at YOU acting like a spoiled child once again.

Thanks, Joe. The sad part is that he keeps coming back though...

Are you referring to my comment of him belittling everyone as "trashing Sik"?? Im not sure if you have realised but I dont have admin rights so it wouldn't be possible for me to ban him. He actually asked to be banned!!

Read my message again. You will find that I am not complaining about people having opinions, I am saying that Joe puts his forward in a very demoralizing way considering the amount of time, money, effort and enthusiasm they have put into it.

If I could change the font to something that resembled a crayon I would. May be then you would understand what I write more clearly and not take it out of context.

You were the responsible IMO. Don't act like if you haven't done anything...

I have followed your game for a while and really like it. I have even shown it to my friends over seas when i visit them. But I am really starting to get tired of all this and it has actually put me off your work. I know this sounds harsh but its about time someone told you.

I will probably get flamed for this but it needed to be said. Needless to say I still regard you as one of top homebrew coders for the Mega Drive.

I'm not sure if anyone will excatly care about working on the game in open source state either (other than Sik).

BTW: thanks for the nice comments about the music.

Me? I feel a bit screwed but i can't really blame him either because i've been observing his psychical condition for a while now... :/

Anyways im done with this, I cant handle someone moaning all the time. no wonder you were banned, you drag everyone else down with you.
