I called you a killjoy because you said you wanted to punch people for enjoying themselves. Not because you don't want to smoke weed.
I didn't say I wanted to punch people for enjoying themselves. I wanted to punch them for being extremely annoying. Haven't you ever had the urge to punch someone who was annoying the living hell out of you?

I created this, again, largely while high
I wrote this game engine in my free time while smoking
I wrote this image editor in my spare time while smoking
I ran an international fraternity for several years, while in college (and getting my degree) very successfully, while eliminating a $10,000 fraternity debt, all the while recreationally smoking. The vast, vast majority of my college papers were written high as well.
Hell, the best, most in-depth posts I make on this very board, I do while I'm high. Example: This one and This one
I'm extremely productive when I smoke. I go and take my dog for a walk after a long drag. When I was in college, I'd smoke before going to football games and never missed a single one. I've been developing an Xbox live indie game in my spare time for the last 5 years entirely by myself, and I am always smoking while working on it.
I'm no pot head. I may have been one when I was younger, but I'll smoke maybe twice a week now, almost always on weekends (because it's unprofessional to smoke during the week). I live a professional, self-sufficient life. It's funny that your example of not being productive, i.e. "staring at a wall" is exactly what you claim to do all the time - watch TV. how exactly is playing video games and watching tv being productive? Show me the fruits of your sobriety, I'm curious now.
A retarded Sonic.
Then you sir are a special individual.
The fruits of my sobriety are that I also got a College Degree, have been working on an Indie XBL game with some friends, and got a job out of college in my field.
Considering that many, many of the art, music, literature, film, and games are created by people who profess to smoking, I'd say, no, I'm not special. I'd say I'm quite average actually. the kind of people who sit around and don't do shit while high, likely wouldn't be creating this sort of stuff while sober either.
A retarded Sonic.
Among that group of people you're average, but I'd say you're above a big majority of stoners who pretty much smoke for the sake of getting high and not to relax or calm their mind. As I said, in the area I grew up in, the people who got into smoking the stuff and didn't stop after school, pretty much amounted to nothing. It really depends on the person doing it. Even down to it being a gateway drug. A lot of supporters scoff at this claim but I've seen it happen first hand to plenty of people who were in high school with me. One person in my brothers grade started with pot and pretty much went from that on to cocaine, from that on to heroine, and now has drug induced schizophrenia. To my knowledge she's still doing the stuff, and pretty much just sits in bed all day collecting unemployment while getting high.
That's pretty much how most of the people I've known who didn't quit doing the stuff after school ended up. So from my point of view, it really is something that doesn't appeal to me and I have no desire to try.
OBLIGATORY WEED-RELATED VIDEO

If you abuse weed and amount to nothing, it's not the weed's fault. There's plenty of reasons people suck at life and plenty of crutches they use in their neglectful self destruction, weed, alcohol, collection hoarding & video games can all enable despair and misery in people. It's escapism.
Yeah, I think this is an all time low at Sega-16. This is really one of those touchy subjects that shouldn't really be discussed. Like Politics and Religion. Everyone has an opinion on the matter and they all stink.
EDIT: I'm aware of that Knuckleduster, simply saying that the situation does actually happen. And in the situation of people using it as a crutch for their own failures, the weed doesn't help the situation. For example that person I mentioned earlier at this point has blown enough money to buy a small house on drugs.
my mother has told me many times before about how much of a pot-head my father was in his youth.
he used to drag my mother to parties all of the time back then, back throughout most of the 1970's, this was.
he pretty much invariably got himself high as a kite at each and every opportunity, but my mother tried the stuff, once or twice,
and abstained from then on, citing that she did not like what it did to her head.
she was also highly resentful, as, when she went to parties, she liked to "Have Fun"
play Pool and the like. my father, however, liked to get high, mellow out and shoot the shit.
she said he'd just sit around and ramble on, -to anyone who'd hang around to listen- for hours.
she did not enjoy this one little bit, so she stayed away from the weed, and enjoyed herself best she could
while her husband layed around contemplating the meaning of Dick and Jane with whoever he could pin down.
he also did lots of harder substances, well into the 1980's, even, and, in early/mid 1990, he got terminated from his job since 1985,
"WICKS AIRFREIGHT INC." of PORTLAND, OR. by being caught on camera doing pot with a cluster of co-workers on premises.
that job was the best my father had ever had in his life, to that point.
it paid well, and he was climbing the ranks.
when he got canned, it was a real crash-and-burn for him,
and we, as a family, had to spend the next half-decade, the first half of the 1990's, recovering from it...
in sum, the point i'm attempting to get at here, is that, while i'm not about to get on a moral high-horse here and chide anyone that enjoys indulging,
i myself feel quite strongly against such substances, most understandibly, i feel, as i have seen and experienced, first hand, as a child,
how illicit substances can ruin one's career, and often even their entire natural life along with it...
I don't think there's anything wrong with saying you don't like it, but picking up eddiespruce's mantle and being adamantly opposed seems a bit ridiculous.
Are there a large amount of morons who drink/smoke? Yes. It's not really fair to generalize though. And it's not fair to demonize something just because you don't agree with it. I think it's best to just state your case and be done with it, as opposed to try and beat a dead horse by further reaffirming a stance everyone already knows that you've taken.
