I'd be willing to throw 2 grand at it in a month. I'm already willing to build the best I can piece together, but I'm going to wait and see what they offer. If it's more console than a spec and they actually partner up to brand a piece of hardware, I will lose the money just to support them. This is just convenient timing for me if it's at GDC and goes to market soon.

To me, Valve & Sega were the only huge publishers who ever gave a shit about their fans. I will still burn money to support their crazy ideas.

man, $300 will build you an htpc that'll smoke all current consoles. the days of $1000 builds are a thing of the past. for $2000 you're gonna get a freaking render farm workstation.
    A retarded Sonic.

Yeah, what I mean is that in a month I'll be willing to buy an overpriced pre-built Alienware piece of shit, and a bunch of peripherals to do anything extra. It won't be a concern, and I won't have to build it myself... I've built PCs before, I would sooner spoil myself and be lazy about it.

Better worded: Willing to spend anything, willing to waste money on shiny crap I don't need if it feeds Gaben.

You could build a very basic, AMD powered computer for about $600; $100 of that would be just for a 500 gig HDD.

$300 will net you a board, CPU and memory. You'd still need a decent video card, an operating system, case, power supply and the HDD. It would require really cheap parts.
A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

What the heck happened to hard drive prices in the last year or so anyway? I used to be able to get 80-160GB drives for $40-60, now the starting price for any hard drive is $80.

Most of the HDDs are manufactured in Thailand. The flooding wiped out most of the production plants.

When I'd built my PC back in early 2011, I had purchased a 500 gig Seagate HDD for under $60 and the other 500 gig Seagate HDD I put in there was about $70. I'd still spent between $800-$900 to build it and there are still some games I can't run at maximum settings.

I didn't say a modern PC, I said you could build an Xbox 360 and PS3 crushing PC for under $300.

You can buy an Nvidia 8800GT for an average of $25 on ebay and it'll smoke any current console. I don't think people realize how far ahead PC hardware is at the moment.

A $2000 rig would be killer.

Yeah, that's a used video card. I guess you could build a computer using a bunch of used equipment.

    E8400

    AMD Athlon 64 X 2 @ 2.7 Ghz

Or you could just buy a used PC and throw that used card in there.

Pretty much this, 2000 is crazy, the most you'll need for a HTPC is a 1000.Another thing to think about is whether you want to go with HTPC form factor.

    Less talk more action!

Hah, is there a HTPC form factor? Mine is a mid tower.

2000 isn't crazy at all, when you factor in everything I would throw at it when considering it a gaming HTPC.

At the very least, it will probably have two of these thrown in with it:

You might as well just build another full on PC then, also is that a Hori VLX?

Yeah that's a VLX. You could throw 2 VX/V3's into the mix for just one of those, but my point was it's not total overkill to throw 2 grand at a gaming HTPC while expecting it to have peripherals for most modern games. Wheels, Sticks, etc.

Essentially anything micro ATX. They even sell dedicated HTPC cases (which are usually horizontal rather than vertical like a tower). If you do build a form factor HTPC, make sure not skimp on the case - my previous HTPC was built with a cheap form factor case, and the thing had so much heating problems.

I'm like you now, I just run a tower (although I keep it in the closet and I've routed VGA and USB terminal connections throughout my house).
