    Default Gameboy Colour Mods/Flashcart Recommendations

Just posting to see if anyone has experience with Modding the GBC.

    - Is there a backlight mod? I can only seem to find them for the original GB.

    - Is there a good 64M flashcart?

    - Any other mods worth doing?

Also my speaker is fucked, any ideas where I can find a replacement? (it looks about 1" in diameter)

I was curious about this myself. My guess is that, if you have to ask, there's probably not one (yet).

As for the speaker, it seems like it would be easier to find a donor system than to find a loose part the correct size. GBCs seem to be a dime a dozen - I used to have a skillion of them myself. Wish I still had them, actually.

Yeah, after more searching it looks like there is only a "front light" mod where you use a GBA SP as a donor.

I think I'm going to go ahead and backlight my original GB though.

I did that mod on a couple of my DMGs. Worked really well, except for the fact that the "colors" end up looking washed out. I'm tempted to try it on a GB Pocket, but those are harder to find, and I don't want to ruin a perfectly good one in the process (I sacrificed a couple DMGs while I was practicing for the final mod).

This is the one I'm looking at, http://www.nonelectronics.com/catalo...p98o8vjonn1621

Overall does it improve the clarity and correct the viewing angle problems? I just pulled my DMG out of a box. I haven't used it in about 15 years, so it'll be a fun project to work on anyway since it's just been sitting.

Is yours a white light? I think the "mint" colour might end up being a better choice.

Yeah, that's where I got mine from. I'll post some pics when I get home tonight.

Mine are both white. These pictures definitely don't do the screens justice, but I had to get out of the ideal viewing angle to keep my shadow out of the picture. But the contrast is more "washed out" than I'd like and, yes, the image vanishes when looking at it from an extreme angle.

    "NES Theme" (blue LED)

    "SNES Theme" (green LED)

Thanks for posting your DMG's I really appreciate it. The SNES/NES styled buttons look really nice.

Going to go ahead and order a kit. I've decided that installing a single pole single throw switch would be a good idea if I want to turn the backlight off.

If you are to backlight a DMG or Game Boy Pocket I heartily recommend a "biversion" where the polarizer is rotated, which inverts the image but improves contrast, and then the LCD data is inverted to restore the correct colors.

    Picture of the improved contrast:

I have written guides for both systems and they are on this page:
