I want to blame the dumbass media for Sega Ages 3D tanking. IDK wtf they were expecting it was a budget release for fucks sake. 10 old Sega remakes with PSx style graphics for 29.99. And they still ripped Sega for that. I don't see Sega ever releasing Moonwalker again unless they obtain that license. But how many times do we need to see Flicky again? It would be nice to get a SMS compilation and it is odd that they have never bothered with the Saturn even though it was more popular in Japan than the DC was.

If there's any truth to this at all, hopefully they'll leave SSF alone. It's the only Saturn emulator worth a damn anymore (though Yabause is getting there).

Zillion was done in-house at Sega. Kenseiden, I don't know. I have been looking for any evidence of who developed it for a long time. I doubt that being developed outside of Sega would affect re-releases/remakes of old games if they own the rights. Sega re-released Kenseiden on Gametap.

One bad thing about recent downloadable versions of classics is that we're not getting anywhere near the quantity for the money that we were with retail compilations. We might not see anything like Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection again.

It's true, and why would you assume they're going to do something bad with it? Nebula is still chugging along, despite being used for Daytona USA HD. Sega infamously bought Kega ages ago and it kept going.
    A retarded Sonic.

    Okay, that's something I didn't know.

There's also the fact that they bought both the PC and DS versions of jEnesis to use them on certain projects of them (PlaySEGA and Sonic Classic Collection respectively, although the latter was a heavily modified version of it)

Nintendo has been repackaging and re-releasing its hits for years. Sega shouldn't have to wait until someone emulates its old consoles before deciding to re-release its games. That alone should show you how interested they are in re-visiting older franchises.

    That's the difference.

To take it one step further - ever wonder why Nintendo never emulates the Arcade version of Donkey Kong, but rather keeps bundling the NES version? Nintendo doesn't own the source code to that version and are too cheap to license it, and refuse to work around the issue.
That's just incredibly lazy and stupid. Nintendo should definitely be on top of that and at least try to acquire the source code to the game that made the damn company successful in the first place. That's inexcusable.

In summation, your views on nintendo's stance on bring back old games are not 100% true, and Sega has practiced much of what Nintendo practices.
I never said Nintendo was the standard to look to. I simply said it was better at keeping its back catalog in the public eye than Sega was. Sega has a shit ton of properties that it is simply ignoring. Hell, I've never heard of Nintendo execs not recognizing one of their own franchises, but it happened with Sega. Nintendo hasn't waited for other people to emulate its hardware either.

They went straight to the dreamcast because that's what the internet was most vocal about. Sega is paying attention to what people are saying online. Hence why Saturn games are coming.
More people have been asking for DC games than Saturn? How many Sega-made DC games are there still left worth re-releasing? They've been offering games like Sonic Adventure 2 and Ecco: Defender of the Future since the GameCube and PS2 were around. It's probably the only Sega console that's gotten any respect in that regard, and that's because it's current enough to make a quick release viable. How many Saturn releases have there been in that time though? Almost none. People have been asking for Saturn games for a decade, and now is when Sega is finally getting around to it. Has anything actually been announced though? The only recent rumor running around is for Shenmue - a DC game.

Well, no, the first Sega Ages collection we got WAS made by Sega - it was for the Sega Saturn.
... and it was published in America by Working Designs. No other SA collections were released here.

Regardless, the Sega Ages 2500 collection was never made by Sega - it was published, and produced by Sega, and developed by D3 (and later M2). We got the first in a series over here... and sales TANKED. Why would Sega keep bringing them over when they sold miserably?
We never got any over here, so who knows how they would have sold? The only classic collection we got was the abysmal Sega Classics one, where they raped Golden Axe and Space Harrier.

But fear not, because now they're finally coming over, via DD. And that's awesome.
Better late than never I guess. I hope we know which fans to thank for the emulation.

Either way, we just suddenly got a very big dose of Sega goodness for the SMS with the Wonderboy and Alex Kidd collections (even if the wonderboy collection lacks any SMS games, he was undoubtedly better known as an SMS star). We got some Sega CD love last year with Sonic CD. Sega has never been short of Genesis love. Game Gear love is being spread across the 3DS. All that's left is some 32X love (Ha! Fat chance) or some Saturn love.
The Genesis love has unfortunately been the same 2 dozen games over and over, but it's something, I guess. I would like to see more Sega CD games and imports. MWIV been localized is amazing to see, even if it comes years after - yep, you guessed it - fans did it first. Sega reminds me of a great football player who's amazing to watch but can't be bothered to play unless you really hound him or throw a ton of cash in his face.

And everything I've heard points to Saturn games definitely being in the pipeline.
So no confirmation on Saturn games then? So we're discussing speculation? That doesn't really help your argument. I haven't read anything that confirms that Sega is even seriously considering re-releasing Saturn games, outside of a few producers like Yosuke Okunari who said they'd like to do it, and that was two years ago. I was really happy to see Guardian Heroes and Radiant Silvergun, and I hoped they were the start of a steady stream of announcements, but it's been more than 6 months and nothing's come of it.

You talking about the PS2 Sega Classics Collection? I hated that; I remember buying it on release day, taking it home and playing Golden Axe and thinking "holy shit, what is this crap?" - some of the games were decent remakes (Tant R and Bonaza Bros), some were ok but forgottable (Columns, which I loved for it's classical music and they replaced with Japanese cutesy anime graphics and crap music) and then you had the remakes that played nothing like their classic 8/16 bit counterparts with terrible controls & laughable collision, all of which were turds in their own right, let alone compared to what they were trying to emulate (Golden Axe, Space Harrier).

Budget or not, Sega chose poor Sega Ages games to pack on that disc.

Because Girigiri became Sega property, and development for the EMU community stopped. I'd hate to see SSF go the same route, since if it happened once for Saturn emulation, it can happen again.
