You must be crazy, Sol-Type, Runner A.D 2025,Galaxy Desert, 3 Prayers, all good. The best part is that it fits well with the games strange tone, Hanzawa never disappoints.

A quote from VGMDB that sums things up.

alien soldier could have been easily on the "top 5 genesis games" but the dificulty its INSANE and the " TONS OF BOSS BATTLES" gameplay its a pain in the ass!!
too old for video games huh?

I have nothing against the way Alien Buster controls, it's just the fact that the game focuses on boss battles only, and I find that boring. I mean, imagine if a game like Streets of Rage 2 had no street thugs, just bosses. It wouldn't be even half as fun.

The boss battles in SoR 2 are no where near as well thought out as Alien Soldier.I'd take SoR 3 with just boss battles, they were much more engaging than 2's bosses.

Man, these boss battles aren't just punching and kicking like in SOR, there creative and unique as FUCK!

One of my favorite stages is where you light up the room every time you shoot. I love fighting XI-Tiger and the Spider that if you don't kill in time, it's own spiders well bring down the platform you're standing on and BOOM! Game over.

Sorry, It's just not my idea of fun, but that's just my opinion, and everyone is entitled to their own. I'll probably never purchase this game, not even a $35 repro. Gunstar Heroes has way more variety in my opinion.

I also don't like games where you have to rush through them. I don't know why people love speedrunning through Super Metroid, I like to take my time, enjoy the scenery, and collect every energy tank, missile, etc. I understand people once speedran through it to see Samus with no suit on, but these days, you can easily see what that looks like with a quick google search.

Same here man. I don't like the concept of boss rush mode. Maybe I am talking out of my ass again, and should try the game out, and give it a fair chance.

Even though Treasure did the same thing to the video games as Akira Kurosawa did to the movies, they both have some weak points. Alien Soldier reminds me of Ran, or High And Low (and those two movies are overrated as hell imo). However, Gunstar Heroes reminds me of Seven Samurai, one of the greatest motion pictures ever made and it means alot to the dramaturgical genre (just as Gunstar Heroes means alot to the Run'N Gunners).

My main issue with Alien Soldier is the lack of 6 button support. For a game that came out towards the end of the system's life it doesn't really make much sense to skip out on something like that.
A, X, Y and Z could have been different weapons and Mode could be the Mode Change.

Ran is brilliant, definitely better than The Seven Samurai, imo. I would argue that Samurai is the overrated film; that's always the first thing people mention when they speak of Kurosawa, and it seems like it's the only Kurosawa film most people have even seen. It's a good movie, to be sure, but he did so much other work that is far more worthy of praise, and Samurai tends to overshadow it. My favorite Kurosawa movie would be Ikiru, though.

Dynamite Headdy is pretty much a "boss rush" with a few platforming levels sprinkled in, and unless I'm mistaken you claimed to love that game. If you like Treasure, you should definitely give it an honest try.

That would have been awesome. In fact that's kind of how Radiant Silvergun works.

Agreed. I think Contra Hard Corps is to much of boss rush as well, there is something to smoking weak enemies for 5 mins that is so satisfying (then I am ready for a challenge) These boss rush games just become learn pattern execute. Beating weak thugs up in brawlers and weak enemies in shoot em ups are fun because you can kill them in a bunch of fun ways.
Beat Em Up- Streets of Rage 2
    Platformer- Sonic 3 and Knuckles
    Run and Gun- Gunstar Heroes
    Adventure- Story of Thor
    Action- Shinobi 3

Would it be possible to modify the controls to be like that with some sort of ROM hack? that would be awesome if you could!

Actually it's sort of possible. This controller can save different types of button combinations and save those on a single button.
