You're right, and the PS3 is backwards compatible. I don't know if DVDs last longer than carts though. I've heard the life of a disc is about 25 years, but how long a well handled cart could live is unknown to me.

Well, some Atari carts are still working, so it can be for more than 25 years...

Some CDs die after only 15 years I heard. But: at least it is easier to make a backup copy of a CD or DVD than it is to dump all those different kind of cartridges.
So it might be best to make a backup every 10 years or so and youŽll be fine.
CDs will only last until next Tuesday.

Aah! Just GREAT!
The German version comes without Shadow Dancer! For some odd reason the game was banned when I was like 9 years old, and Sega made no effort to get it off the red list nowadays!
Does anybody know about the other PAL-versions? Is it missing there too?
So today since I had a spare $15, I picked up the Sega Genesis Collection for the PS2. Mainly to play in my dorm, because I don't like the thought of leaving my precious Genesis alone in a dorm room or with my roommate when I'm away at class.
Anyway, I was getting some Ecco on, when I noticed that the sound is off. I mean, really off. Some sound effects seem to be way too loud, others way too quiet. For example, the running into rocks sound seems to be louder than normal, and the sonar sound seems to be quieter. That and the sharks in Tides of Time seem to be much more aggressive than I remember. Has anyone else noticed this? And are the Ecco games the only ones that are a bit off on the collection? I haven't played anything besides them and Kid Chameleon, and KC played and sounded just fine.
As for why I bothered to buy the game when there are perfectly good emulators out there, I decided it was high time I legally owned some of the games I've had ROMs of for years now. *cough*Phantasy Star IV*cough* That and I can hear all the games on good stereo speakers when I do bring my PS2 home.

I've never played one of the collections except for a little of sonic gems once, and things did seem a bit different in some of them. Which is why I've never bought any of the "collections".
Yes. You've done it again, GermanyOriginally Posted by 108 Stars

Is the psp version the same as ps2 version of the sega genesis collection.
I think that all retro sets for consoles should include a decent quality retro controller or adaptor.Originally Posted by megadriveworld
I don't mind retro sets in general when they have decent games, quantity and at the very least progressive scan.
The Sega Genesis Collection looks a lot better on my LCD than the real thing. Its nice to have some of these games in my living room available for my girlfriend or guests to pick up and play.
I wouldn't have bought it for any more than the retail price, but it still should've been closer to $20 Canadian. In the end I'm very happy with it.
A PSO/U crazy friend of mine who doesn't like to mess around with old consoles and who's wanted to play some real Phantasy Stars picked it up and its opening up the series to him. Otherwise he'd probably just always mean to get around to getting a Genesis and the carts and making the time to play them... but never would.
I like the collection.
It may even get me to play PS II and III again because I can save everywhere.
But what cought my eye is the fact that the graphics look a bit blurry compared to seeing them on a MD. Also, for some reason I can stretch the screen, but I can not move it to the right. RGB tends to shift the pic a bit to the left, so adjusment is needed or else a bit is cut off.
I just can´t get over stuff like Altered Beast, GA I - III, Alex Kidd, Vermillion or Virtua Fighter 2 (that looks terribly sad compared to other Genny-Fighters) being on a collection representing the best the MD has to offer.
When I play my classic game systems with my rgb -> component transcoder, I have the same issue with Sega Genesis games, but not with Saturn and or SMS.Originally Posted by 108 Stars
A lot of TV's do that for some reason. Oh well.
