Default Funny Legendary Axe commercial from 1989

While SEGA's marketing of Genesis was vastly superior to that of NEC's TurboGrafx-16, I thought this commercial was funny as hell.

Haha, I love how the kid says to use the axe. Like there are multiple weapons in that game or something.

That was extra cheesy. Anyways, I love this game along with its sequel. One of the best hack and slashers.

During the period when that commercial ran, Sega's advertising was not much better. Hell, even into late 1991 they had abysmal advertising:

Sega really only got good advertising when the Sega scream emerged, the "Genesis Does" commercial being the big exception.

The OPs link is kinda sad, they couldn't even play some of Legendary Axe's pretty good music. That last one about comparing Kung Fu to China Warrior is sad too, "available at these stores", Toys R Us. I remember when Sega systems were only available there and in specialty shops too.

^ I remember that video quite a bit back in the day.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJACKXm3YtE <- Another video with the 'mario' looking fake game (seen in the above video as well). A diss on SMB3?

It's not that sad. Kung Fu is actually a port of an arcade game called Kung Fu Master, and China Warrior is actually a port of a game called The Kung Fu, which is Hudson's unabashed clone of Irem's Kung Fu Master. It's sort of like comparing Zelda to Golden Axe Warrior.

Oh, I think the game comparison was appropriate, I just thought the ad was depressing since it basically admitted that the TG16 was only available in one store.

I don't know if it's funny or sad that all the recommended videos on Youtube after the Legendary Axe one were for Axe body spray

Funny. I totally thought it was going to be an ad for Axe body spray that was "Legendary". Didn't think it was around back in 1989, but I was still curious. Never played TG16 so wasn't familiar with the game.

I'm fairly sure Axe body spray is relatively new (as in, within the last 10 years). I remember it seemed to come out of nowhere in the 2000's. Its ads are funny though - they are textbook examples of sex-driven advertising. Their early ads could be summed up as, "Axe body spray will make women fuck you."

    and it worked too, lol.
