You mean they had CD-ROM when the Mega Drive was announced??? Wow! I know I'd be skeptical too!
The smell of scorched oil hangs in the air as a premonition of danger, while the engine gloriously shouts its war cry...

Throughout history, suspicion has always bred conflict. The real conflict, though, resides in people's hearts. This conflict has just begun.

I like CV4 myself, but i find the addition of "Super" to some titles to be downright silly.

I could understand "Super Mario World", but 95% of the "Super" games had that part tacked on as some cheesy ass way to make the SNES version/game seem like it was "Superior".

As for CD-ROM's, when did the PC-Engine get it's add-on?

    how about Doom 64?

Funny though, Mario had Super in it's name, before the Super Nintendo.. Super Mario Brothers.. that might be where Nintendo got SUPER from..

I'm far more tolerant of the use of "64" in a title than what would have been the alternative, "ULTRA".

    ULTRA DOOM

    ULTRA MARIO KART

    ULTRA EXCITE BIKE

    So on....

That might be where Nintendo got the idea for "Super" but there were a lot of games that didn't really need that tacked onto the name.

Yeah I quickly grew tired of all of the "64's" attached to N64 game titles as well. Thankfully the trend didn't continue with putting "Cube" on every Gamecube title.

You mean they had CD-ROM when the Mega Drive was announced???
They had announced that a CD-ROM player of some type would be down the road for the unit. The PC Engine CD was just about to come out when I read that. My friend decided that they built the CD-ROM right into the console, like the Saturn. I told him that the Saturn wouldn't be invented for quite some time and we'd have to deal with the CD-less Mega Drive first.

Oh yes, Lords of Thunder WAS released for Japanese Mega CD!
It has a different(stupid) name, and the cover of the disc is completely innappropriate.
I'd tell you, but I don't know how many copies the store I'll be ordering from has, and I'm greedy...

I think FIFA takes the cake. You get FIFA 94, 95, 96, then 64 all of a sudden.

The 1963/1964 season was a great one for football.

It didn't have a hard drive, there was no drive of any kind unless there were weird Japanese floppy disk attachments. I could see the MegaDrive being sold as the MegaCD attachment, because it has a CD drive. Genesis wasn't as flashy, but it got the point across that this was something new.
It's part-Engrish. 'Mega' as in Mega-<verb>, Drive as in car - freedom, power, the kind of ideas you see in car ads. The Drive as in CD drive is a happy little coincidence as far as I'm concerned.

megadrive all the way (i'm a brit)=and it just sounds great. i always felt genesis sounded crap and was just 'the americans' trying to be better than everyone else.

now we know that's only half true, the name had to be changed.

but yeah, genesis- bit too biblical- bit too ' the start'- bit too phil collins!! (of course, peter gabriels' work is fine!)

hmm lords of thunder sega cd sucks compared to the pace of the pc engine version,pc engine cdr2 1991 i think, the megadrive already extern output for the md cd or what ever plans back then for that, they had mega?stands for?mega power or 100000 1MIPS ? i dont know mega for the power in the system and drive couse it drives the add ons and couse it had a whopping 7,58 mhz which no home console had in 88,not even the tg 16,had a slower drawing engine.

Upon further research, the various sites that claim there's a Lords of Thunder in Japan under a different name are wrong.
The game they say is Lords is in fact just some dumb card-based RPG.
Odd, as it's based on a Tokusatsu show...
