The recording of the guitars, drums, keys etc has a much worse sonic quality on PC engine.
The guitars were obviously(to a guitarist like myself and my friends) were recorded by plugging a distortion effect into a recorder.
There's more compression on the mix on PC engine, and the attack and release controls are set too long. That basically means when one thing gets louder, the rest get quieter and then fade back in.
These are very technical terms, but I'm fond of the technical side of recording music.
I think shred guitar sounds better with reverb, too.
The drums(while I'm sure are still a machine) are also more 'real' sounding on the Mega CD.
The difference is always personal preference with music, but it's best said this way: The PC Engine is a little too simply recorded, the Sega version is a little over-complicated.
The 'tightness' of the PC engine mix is mostly due to the reverb on the Mega CD.
I'll try a little EQ and reverb to see of I can make the PC engine mix sound more like the Mega CD to test that theory.

Too bad you can't do anything to improve the horrible sound effects in the Sega version. Ug!

You can turn the slider on a Genesis/MD 1 down about 75%.
    That helps ALOT.

hmm lords of thunder sega cd sucks compared to the pace of the pc engine version,pc engine cdr2 1991 i think, the megadrive already extern output for the md cd or what ever plans back then for that, they had mega?stands for?mega power or 100000 1MIPS ? i dont know mega for the power in the system and drive couse it drives the add ons and couse it had a whopping 7,58 mhz which no home console had in 88,not even the tg 16,had a slower drawing engine.
Ary, I don't understand 90% of your posts, but I think you stumbled on to something there:

    Taken from Wikipedia
The simplest 68000 instructions took four clock cycles, but the most complex ones required many more. An 8 MHz 68000 had an average performance of roughly 1 MIPS.
As we all know Million = Mega... one Million Instructions Per Second.... Mega Instructions Per Second.... Mega Drive?

shall I? cut the audio OUT traces going TO the SCD, and ad a volume POT on both of them...

hook the TV up to the SCD2's audio out.. there, now you got volume control on the Genesis 2...

It needs to be a stacked knob, but it'll work. 50k stacked knobs aren't uncommon. I have one(with a built-in switch, doesn't need to be attached).

Alternatively you can plug a pair of headphones into the mix input to kill the audio in from the expansion port, then just use a cheap mixer( they get CHEAP), run the audio out from each, and use the sliders to set the individual levels
hell, you'll even be able to EQ each channel.

And the ugly way. I would hate adding external knobs or pots to the Genesis 2, though I doubt that machine can get any uglier!

Hmm i do play guitar also but im still learning i can play several themes from game and some metallica songs i can play some comix zone songs thunder force 4 lords of thunder streetfighter and fire shark mario king of fighters fighting vipers and many more i play just for the fun i can play stairway to heaven etc,but back to the main the music stil is synthesized but then aggain computers back then seem to do pretty much good they where advanced and this was possible, but im trying the sega cd version out to and then ill have my inal judge im not dissapointed with the sound coming from the tg 16 version very sharp and i think i have to agree with the personal taste thing,im going to try and cover every single song of that game Lol.

im not going to call it that it seemed softer and more synthesized @ times,on the other hand it isnt a weakness of the sega cd eternal champions for instance made the non gamer think that it was recorded trough a amp.
