Without mentioning any names, I have indeed noticed that at this forum even some members of the staff spew hate and disrespect and belittle other people's opinions just like your two friends in this thread. Fuck the whole place, I'm gone. Sorry to those that were hoping I would entertain them.
Love the random fits of rage over absolutely nothing.
Yeah, this guy is an absolute riot. What is he, a 10 year old?
I don't think the n64 sucks, it wasn't the best system but there were definately games worth playing for the 64. I think some of the people that hate the 64 really haven't played a majority of the games for it. during the time the 64 was released it was quite a amazing experience playing mario 64 for the first time since there was really nothing like it at the time for other systems. it was actually a decent system for multiplayer games, I spent many hours playing mario kart 64 in multiplayer mode.
it's not my favorite system but its not the worst either, i'd take it over 3do or jaguar any day. to those that hate the official controller this is probably the best 3rd party controller i've used for the 64:

Doesn't change what he said, the Atari machines didn't "set the standard", because 4 controller ports didn't become standard after the release of those systems.
I think we can safely say that Xbox and DC were inspired by N64 to put 4 ports into their console, and that Nintendo were possibly inspired by Atari (being that the N64 also had the Vectrex's analogue thumbsticks I think its safe to say that during the design of the N64 Nintendo may have actively looked into videogame ideas which didn't take off, to see if they could be re-worked).
I don't think that lessens their achievement with the N64, it was still important that they saw the potential in those ideas and took the chance to bring them back into the public eye, many companies are happy to never try anything new (or forgotten) and just go through the motions whilst letting others take risks.
I've just got three words for all the N64 haters. Analog thumb sticks. (and don't give me a bunch of blow about how they "weren't really analog".They were close enough.)
While worn out sticks can't be fixed (well, not that easily), for unused or NOS sticks you can grease/lubricate the plastic pieces to greatly extend the stick's lifespan. For now, here's a pretty good guide on how to do it:

Oh my god guys, these controllers are to die for. THESE should have been what came with the system.

64 is one of my least favorite consoles for sure. All of the genres that I like are terrible on the 64. I don't like the controller, and a majority of the "5 Star" games are criminally overrated. Gamecube and SNES are much better systems than the 64, but none of them compare to the almighty NES.
I don't play old stuff for nostalgia, I play old stuff because the games are better.
