I'll let you be the judge. Here's a video of the pinball machine in action:

Music fits perfectly with the gameplay!

And yes, King Quest games rule too!

Action, in terms of video game genres, simply means that the commands you give it are carried out immediately (in real-time) as opposed to turn-based or command prompt commands.

I don't agree with that. There are several adventure games that have done away with the point-and-click interface and give you direct/real-time control, yet they are pure adventure games with no action in them whatsoever. I also wouldn't consider RTS to be a type of action game, nor puzzle games, nor racing games (you could make an argument for racing games that feature weapons, but otherwise, no).

To Obviously: Not necessarily(It's common for better games to just come around after you've already spent time in a game/you find out about a game afterwards, likewise some games are harder then others. Just because It's not a all time fav, doesn't mean It's not a great game/worth playing), and not very likely at all or are you saying in "your" case that's how it is(if so, desregard this post)?
No I was basically saying what you're saying. Your most played games don't necessarily mean your favorite game, so it's an interesting topic to consider. Sorry if I was unclear.

I'm loving these lists guys. I've been putting off doing mine, but I'm finally ready.

Platformer Super Mario Bros. (NES) What? It came with the damn system for God’s sake.

Racing – It’s a close race between Daytona USA (arcade), Test Drive (C64) and Super Monaco GP (Gen) I’ve put countless hours into all of them, so I’m not quite sure which was played most. Every arcade near me had multiple Daytona units set up, and I spent a summer and most of a school year playing that thing, especially the one at the bowling alley.

Sports Tecmo Super Bowl (NES), and it’s not even close.

    Shooter (Shmup)Truxton (Gen)
Shooter (Run n Gun)Contra (NES) I played both of these games incessantly as a kid and I still play through both of them at least once a month now. That has to mean something.

Light GunWanted (SMS) I played it constantly at this kid’s house across the street when I was a kid. All I had was an Atari 2600 at the time, so I went to Brent’s to play SMS daily. It wasn’t until 1990 before I finally got an NES.

Adventure (graphic and text)The Adventures of Willy Beamish (PC) I loved it growing up. I finally picked up a copy for SCD last year, and it was a blast sitting down and playing it again.

Action-Adventure or ARPGThe Legend of Zelda (NES) “That game changed my life, man.”

Puzzle Tetris (on my little sister’s GB) or Marble Madness (PC)

Rhythm – IDK…I’ve played Rock Band (360) a few times at parties. Does Parappa the Rapper (PSX) count? My little sister had that one, and I probably played it a couple times. I guess I’m just not a rhythm guy, but I am willing to learn. Would you send me some place special.

Roleplaying Phantasy Star (SMS) I still like it better than the sequels.

Maze ChaseSnake (TI-83) This game got me through 3 years of Math class back in prep school on my graphing calculator. I likely would have died of boredom without it.

Pinball – If we are talking about actual pinball machines, then it is definitely the Addam’s Family Movie machine. It was awesome. I can remember the hand reaching out and grabbing my ball. If we are talking about video game pinball, then it is probably The Deep Pinball on my iphone. It’s great for my afternoon number 2s at work.

Fighting Mortal Kombat II (Arcade and Gen) We wasted so much of our summer vacation in an arcade playing this game. When it finally came out on Genesis, we wasted so much of our school year in our bedrooms playing this game.

Beat 'em upDouble Dragon (SMS) or possibly TMNT: The Arcade Game (NES) It’s close, but I think I spent more time with DD. Great memories of 2 player action with friends growing up.

Strategy North and South (NES) Yes, I was a history nerd from a very young age.

FPS Wolfenstein 3D (PC) I remember getting the shareware for this game in the 4th or 5th grade. Kids all came over to my place after school and huddled around my computer while we took turns. My mom would bring us cookies and milk. Those were the days. I guess we were the Hitler Youth of the suburbs.

Simulation Sim City 2000 (PC) I have probably spent more hours of my life playing that game than any other. I was addicted for a long time. I would wake up in the middle of the night after my parents were asleep and sneak downstairs to play it until school started. I do same thing now after my wife falls asleep, only with porn instead of Sim City 2000.

I was doing a search on something completely unrelated to this thread and came across it by accident. Somehow I missed it when it was current, but it looked like it would be fun to participate so I've brought it back from the dead. Rise from your grave!

Platformer - I enjoy platformers but in a casual way, so I've not put a ton of time into any one game. Maybe Sonic 2, since I still revisit that one to this day.

Racing - SF Rush on N64. I played the hell out of this game BITD. First racing game to give me that "almost out of control" sense of speed, even if the cars did handle a bit like tanks.

Sports - Virtua Tennis (the first one, on Dreamcast). Never been into sports games, so not much of a competition here. The only other sports games I played with any regularity were Blades of Steel on NES and NFL Blitz on N64.

Shooter - Gate of Thunder for Tubografx. Favorite shmup of all time. After that, probably TFIII and Lords of Thunder.

Light Gun - House of the Dead 2 on Dreamcast. Tons of fun both single and multiplayer. A very adrenalin-inducing experience. The ridiculous voice acting is the icing on the cake.

Adventure (graphic and text) - This is tough; I'm not really into adventure games as they typically bore me. I'd have to say "none", as I've only dabbled in this genre, with nothing catching my fancy.

Action-Adventure or ARPG - The original Diablo (for PC, although I played it on my Mac). I sank MANY hours into this game. It's definitely in the top 5 time sucks of all time for me.

Puzzle - Tetris, which I played on my Mac Plus way back when. I put significant time into this on other platforms as well, mainly the Gameboy Color with Tetris DX (probably my favorite version of this game).

Rhythm - I don't like rhythm games, but the only one I ever found amusing was Rhythm Heaven on the DS. I didn't play it that much, but that was enough to put it at the top of the list. And it has a good sense of humor.

Roleplaying - Not an RPG player, so I'd have to go with "None". Traditional RPGs don't hold my attention, although I've thought of trying one of the Elder Scrolls games. Some of the modern RPGs do look interesting at least. JRPGs though seem way too silly and clunky for me.

Maze Chase - I don't know if there are enough games in this "genre" to make it a genre However, I played Maze Craze on the Atari 2600 quite a bit. I had it on an Atari or Activision collection some years back and it is still fun. Brilliant game design.

Pinball - Devil's Crush, although this almost wins by default. I like real pinball, but have never gotten into any video game versions. Devil's Crush I found amusing and played it for a little bit.

Fighting - Soul Calibur on Dreamcast. Favorite fighting game of all time, favorite game on the Dreamcast, and one of the best looking DC games ever, IMHO. It's not even close. I like the Street Fighter games, but they come in a distant second in playtime. My friends liked this game as well so I did a lot of one-on-one asskicking on the DC

Beat 'em up - Streets of Rage 3. Followed closely by SoR2 and SoR. I've never cared for any other beat'em up game.

Strategy - Starcraft (on PC, again played on Mac). I think this takes number one in the timesuck category. I spent a LOT of time in the early 2000s playing the hell out of this game with my friends. Infinitely replayable in multiplayer. I never even touched the single player. Honorable mention goes to Advance Wars on the GBA. If there was a turn-based strategy category, this would easily be tops. I put a lot of time into this game as well, but nothing comes close to the amount of time I put into Starcraft.

FPS - Goldeneye on N64. I put a ton of time into both the single player and DM modes. No game has ever had such a good balance between the single player campaign and DM, and no FPS has given me so much playtime and enjoyment. Honorable mentions are Borderlands 1/2, Doom, Wolfenstein, and Halo.

Tough to say what my longest session was. I used to have gaming marathons with friends about once a year way back when. Until recently, I did the same with a single friend. I'd say we play around 12 hours continously max. Once played a single game for maybe 5 hours to beat it on the Atari Lynx at a gathering (Xenophobe comlynxed with 4 people).[/QUOTE]
