Default Things you waited years for that finally came

I'm not talking about sequels. I'm talking about themes or ideas you wanted to see in games, big or small.

    For me:

I wanted a game where you could walk into an arcade and play actual arcade games (not shitty imitations or just watching the character play). Shenmue did that.

I wanted a Beatles game since I saw Yellow Submarine as a kid. That happened with The Beatles: Rock Band.

I wanted to see my hometown in a non-sports game. Mass Effect 3 was that game (technically Syndicate Wars was earlier but all the cities look pretty much the same in it).

I wanted a full-fledged heavy metal themed game. Brutal Legend fit the bill.

I wanted a Star Wars game, that made it feel like I was really flying an X-Wing. Rogue Leader did that.

I wanted a game that I felt like I was a rock star. Guitar Hero did that.

I wanted a game, where I felt like I was in a demolition derby. Destruction Derby did that.

I wanted to play a game, in a world much like that of the Road Warrior. Fallout 3 provided that.

I wanted to play a game, where I was in control of the Star Trek Enterprise while in battle. Star Trek Shattered Universe provided that, but I ended up with the Excelsior. It was close enough.
A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

I honestly can't think of anything. All I can think of is something I'd like to see make a comeback, like a new 2D Metroid, but unfortunately, they still haven't delivered.

When i played Wolfenstein, back when it was the biggest thing on PCs, i liked it very much and i actually found it a bit scary because the immersion of the first person view was something new to me.

So i was thinking how awesome a similar game would be if it had a a scarier theme, with monsters, demons and much darker, more hellish environments. I also imagined big levels with much more detailed and complex level design because one of my complaints about Wolfenstain was its featureless corridors and boxy rooms that became boring after a while (even by 1992 standards).

Well, you all know the game that was released a year later. Its as if they read my mind.

The 2009 Ghostbusters game made me fucking happy, I was all like "ITS LIKE I'M REALLY A GHOSTBUSTER!!"

Definitely a feeling I waited years for.

Tomb Raider and Virtual On were both partial realizations for 3D platforming game types I was hoping to play from way back in 1993, when I realized the potential of SNES Mode 7 games and Sega CD games weren't being fully realized. Unfortunately for me, after the initial thrill of seeing relatively simplified action in 3D, I spent over a decade having to cherry pick through first and then third person shooters for Action games I liked. For every Powerstone and Sonic Adventure there were dozens of games with 3D graphics that might as well have remained 2D with cutscenes, and a handful of FPSs with "story".

I should have quit, but I foolishly kept hoping for a revival of real Action gameplay, I looked everywhere, from my Mamebox to XBLA, to obscure Action releases like Bulletwitch, Golden Axe Beast Rider and Iron Man. Some of these actually filled the void for a time, but then I found myself just collecting decades old games while I read the negative reviews flow in (after beating the games on every difficulty).

3D arcade racing was a sweet revelation too, before it was that scaling look or mode 7 on the Snes, or even very low poly 3D on MS Dos,
but when Daytona and Ridge Racer came out and you had all these nice looking 3D cars just racing around with music in the bg, yeah to me it screamed "real racing is finally here!"

In a way I was so impressed that racing games stopped being fun for me when they upgraded the quality of the games around the time the PS2/Dreamcast era came around,
Guess I just really like the low res look that Daytona/Ridge Racer/Screamer/Sega Rally/Porsche Challenge have.

I don't play the game anymore.
Also yes, really lame units. I don't know how anyone can like the new units in Starcraft 2.

They're no different from the units in Brood War. Mostly.

Some of the units introduced in broodwar were rather lame as well, particularly the new aerial zerg.
Still... a giant spider with red lasers for the protoss? The ultra lame mothership? Those stalker guys that just look like a designers bad nightmare that's also somehow a wet dream?
Or maybe the fact that all terran scientists became japanese and started making anime mecha into army weapons?
Nope, the worst are the zerg, by far.
