I've only played the Game Gear one on an emulator and it seems to be slightly interactive pictures. If that's all this series is then it has to be one of the most pointless and worthless games ever made.
So is this all it is?

Yup. It's a "Digital Library." There are tons of them on the Saturn. I was really looking forward to the Iron Chef "game," and when it arrived I eagerly popped it in hoping to finally compete in kitchen stadium. Sadly, all you do is move around the kitchen to different information and photo galleries. I was crushed!!!
Be Attitude For Gains!
It makes more sense on a console like the saturn, which had a printer in japan. The printer could print out screencaps from games, and these portrait games were made for that very reason. It's not a great reason, mind you, but it's not quite as useless.
A retarded Sonic.
+1 !!!
It's my saddest Saturn game.
There are masses of them on SS and PS but very few of strictly video game derivation, most are for anime games, with an obvious contingent of pop star disks. Not sure whether Shin Megami Tensei ever had a comic book; if not Akuma Zensho would be an instance.
Not sure some of the VF Portraits' use wasn't to pad the game-count stats.
