All depends on the gamer and the appreciation they have. I still like to revisit altered Beast and find it's beat'em up gameplay entertaining. Tis' a classic.

As for Sonic 1? I still enjoy it to this day. Great graphics, great music, great game play, etc. Sure the sequels may have had better elements, but it does not make it any lesser of a game.

And i actually find myself revisiting it a LOT more often than 2, 3, and S&K, because it was the iconic first entry in the series. With the exception of the godly Sonic CD.

Because he's a professional comedian, not a professional gamer. There wouldn't be a show if he was a professional gamer with no comedic talent, though.

I consider Sonic 1 the worst of the classic Sonic games personally.

I have some fun with Green Hill. But when I get to Marble Zone, I just get so irritated with how slow it is, and shut off the game.

I have played the later levels, and I dislike them just as much.

It was probably really dang good for it's time, but when it's sequels came out, it just became kind of meh.

I'm a Sonic 2 fan. I feel it has more stuff going on without being as challenging as Sonic 3 and Knuckles (the two different games, not the combined version).

Really? I always felt that Sonic 3 on its own is by far the easiest Sonic game (maybe Sonic CD being easier if you're not going for all good futures). Sonic and Knuckles by itself is a little tougher without saves but it's hard for me to make a good comparison I guess since I've played all these games to death and they're second nature to me now.

Sonic 2 is definitely harder because of it's bad enemy placement.

I just don't feel that way.. I think it's much easier.

The bosses on later sonic games don't always make sense at first.. Like one you jut guide him off the edge of the level, the other you just try and let him hit himself.. On sonic 2 you always had to hit the boss.

The first Sonic game was great until Sonic 2 came out. The problem was that the spin-dash was introduced. Since then, going back to Sonic was tough. I equate it to the GTA series where in San Andreas they implemented swimming... making Vice City or GTA III almost unplayable for me.

Personally, I think Sonic 1 stood the test of time and is therefore a classic.

I like all the levels (some more than others), most of the music and graphics. Enemy design is best in the entire series (only Sonic CD comes close).

My only real complaint is that 3 acts per level was a bit much (Sonic 2 and 3 got that right one right). The rest is ace.

I like Sonic 2 and 3 as well, but I find them more uneven as games.

Sonic 1 has stood the test of time better than Sonic 2 IMHO. Sonic 1 had one ingredient that 2 lacked for the most part: platforming. Sonic 1 had tons of areas that challenged you to make precision jumps, avoid enemies, etc while Sonic 2 had you stick a chair leg on the right button and go eat dinner. I've always been a fan of the lack of spin dash in Sonic 1. You actually have to put a little bit of effort into trying to build up speed, whereas in 2 you can go from 0 to 60 instantly. It's pretty broken. Never understood why Sonic 2 seems to be everyone's favorite.

No, it's unbiased analysis. The only fanboyism is people who claim that Hyperstone Heist and Bloodlines are actually as good as their SNES counterparts.

Get Sonic Jam for the Saturn. They added the spin dash to Sonic 1 in it.

Yeah, and I would almost say that it breaks the game, but it really just feels like a hack. Sonic 1 is great because the level designs are based around the gameplay so well.

I really hate having the spin dash in the first Sonic. It's not supposed to be there and it really shows when you play with it.

I like having the spin dash in Sonic 1 via Sonic Jam. In fact, I wish they'd added the super peel-out too. Screw you all.

I just like to point that are several hacks and guides available on the Internet that allows one to use the spin dash on Sonic 1 or heavily customize the gameplay.
For those with a flashcart like the Everdrive MD, there's no need to get the Sonic Jam just for that.
If you want just the spin dash in Soc 1 without other (stupid) changes, ask to Google what he knows about: S1spindashrom.zip
