If you don't have a game save the old man (Unoma a recruitable member of Julian's army) asks you questions about whether you had this party member or that one. So you can access the battles with a save from any of the scenarios but I'd wait. The team you get without a save is pretty underpowered for the tasks at hand.

There's all sorts of Japanese stuff of the PD, commercials, the two endings, etc
