Pin for the win. Do they even have pin in the US?
I think that credit cards aren't as widely used where we're from. I don't really know anyone that has a credit card.

I dunno, they seem to be quite horny for their Credit Cards.. I don't understand why they don't just pin like we do.

Ive used my visa debit card since 98 or so, i dont carry cash unless its a gift or something like that. I always make sure to get rid of it asap, before i use my card. Its easier for me to keep track of what i buy, when and where. And if i go missing, the authorities will know where to find me

I hate credit cards. Things charge you massive amounts of interest and the worst part is, you can barely build credit to buy a house, car, get a loan, etc. without having a credit card. It's much harder to do otherwise.

I do not look forward to the day I have to get a credit card, I probably won't even get one at all.

What is this PIN you guys talk about?

I use both cash and debit cards. I collect coins, so I like to use odd money like half and dollar coins, as well as $2 notes, just to confuse some of the kid cashiers who have never seen them before. lol Also with cash, I usually get discounts since the vendor doesn't have to pay the card transaction fee.

PIN stands for Personal Identification Number.

The bank you use gives you a pass that comes with a personal number, (which one should never give out)
then in pretty much every store there's a pin machine, which is just a small handheld card reader hooked up to their computers.
You can also PIN money outside of banks, there's always a machine there where you just insert the card and put in your pin number,
then you can see your account balance and do banking stuff, but most just input how much they want to withdraw and the machine spits out the bills.

So when you go to a store you get your things, then at the register you whip out your pin card and pay directly from your bank account.

No credit bullshit where it all stacks up, you just pay with what you have.
(though you can overcharge a bit, but the moment you get paid it just gets paid back to the bank automatically)

I understand where the Credit Card idea came from, but I don't understand why its become accepted as the normal form of payment,
even going as far as talking about building up credit just to be able to spend more, whatever happened to just saving up your money when you want to buy something big?

I normally use my credit card for almost every transaction then pay it off at the end of each month, I get quite a decent return on it at the end of the year. I almost never use my debit card for anything except the grocery store or pulling out cash from the bank.

I do normally keep about $30-$60 cash on me though, because I never know when I'll run across something that is cash only. Also, a lot of flea markets/thrifts will sometimes give you a better deal if you pay in cash and that's my solid bargaining chip.

I also keep a Morgan silver dollar in my 5th pocket as a bartering option of last resort, most people who recognize the value of it will easily give me a better deal if I try to barter with that instead of cash. Granted, these are normally the crazy folks you don't want to be left alone with either

I always carry cash for the same reason as xelement5x, there are places that just don't accept cards. I've started using debit more recently though. I never use credit.

I've used credit cards since high school. I got in a little bit of debt right after I got married about ten years ago and used all of those 0% interest card offers to pay it off and have stayed out of all consumer debt since. We have a discover card and an amazon credit card. The discover card's limit is set to half of our monthly income, so I have to pay it off every month, the amazon card is set to $300. Oh, and I have our credit frozen at all three agencies so nobody can open a new credit account without paying to have the credit unlocked, which requires a ton of info only I know and my phone number.

Using this method discover has sent me $50 in gift cards every six weeks since about 2006. If I ever got behind on payments they would make it all back REALLY quick with their 23% interest, so I make sure I'm always a month ahead on payments and stop spending when there isn't actual money in the bank to offset the temporary debt. I think we're doing okay using credit cards instead of cash.

That's why you don't pay minimum payments. Anyone who gets so disastrously far into debt and pays the minimum they possibly can to scrape by deserves to be in dire straits. If you can't manage to pay off all your credit card debt in reasonably prompt fashion, without incurring substantial fees, you're doing it wrong and you're a fuck up.

That is what we refer to as debit cards. And those are what most people use. You guys don't seem to realize there is a difference.

That's also why you don't have a credit card with 24.99 % interest rate, I mean holy shit, you'll never get that paid off.

You can put me in the "I don't carry cash" club. I will pull out a twenty for small things, and when it runs out I'll pull out another twenty. Otherwise, it's all debit, all the time.

This works great with panhandlers! (there are a bunch of professional panhandlers around here.) "Can you spare some cash?" "Nah, I don't have any." It's the truth!

Apparently there is a difference to them SpaceFlea, NeoVamp said "Guess its my upbringing but I don't believe in debit cards."

But yeah, what you described as PIN card we call debit cards. Linked to your account, spend at stores with it take out money from the machine you described (We call them ATMs, or Automated Teller Machines), it's connected to your bank account funds. They're also very popular here in the US.
