wait...319 euros for the mvs cart? Uhm....no way for that price to come down at all?
^All the DC prices will eventually go down, no doubt. That stuff can be readily manufactured. But the MVS and AES carts are one-time offers afaik.
I know. It sucks. Yet another reason why I might not ever collect for the Neo Geo.![]()
I'm definitely getting a Dreamcast copy of Gunlord, and probably Sturmwind too.
Hold the phone man. MVS games are quite cheap....or they were when I got into collecting them. KOF 98 was 20$ plus shipping....world heroes perfect same price....the more expensive ones were waku waku 7 and neo driftout but they were 100$ each. And all of my carts are legit...The MVS can be quite a cheap system to collect for. The more user friendly AES is where the money problems are.
Usually when a game is released on both MVS and AES the MVS version is wayyy cheaper. Mostly because there's probably 10x the amount of MVS carts floating around if not more. However it seems gunlord even on the MVS managed to cost a limb. I read on their website that the mvs pcb is custom and I assume the aes one is too....so maybe the money is for manufacturing the custom pcb? The real question is....if the aes and mvs versions both use custom made pcbs...how come the AES one still costs more? I'm going to guess because plugging an AES into a tv is easier than a mvs and no other reason.
I was answering your question about the one MVS cart that is going for said $319. No need to get all technical on me.

There are overprinted AES games too. You can still find many NOS copies of NAM-1975, Magician Lord, Blue's Journey, Riding Hero, Ghost Pilots, Ninja Combat and The Super Spy, to name a few. Just like MVS, deals can be had on the AES, they're just not nearly as common.
The cost of NG.DEV:TEAM's Neo releases is definitely the cost in manufacturing the PCBs. But you also have to take into account the plastic shells, which aren't cheap either, as well as all the employees that have to be paid. NG.DEV:TEAM seems to operate much like any company. How can you overlook those aspects Drakon?
... Oh wait, I forgot I was talking to Drakon...
Oh right so the plastic case for the MVS costs so much more than the dreamcast plastic case. I'm sure you're speaking from so much extensive experience of running a company yourself....or doing commission work....or...well....please educate the world as you love to.
Everything up until "... Oh wait, I forgot I was talking to Drakon..." was a great post. I was hoping you could be a man and post something without a personal attack which would be great. I guess you always have to get the last laugh huh? And the first one too?
Also if you take the time to read my posts I never said the prices are unjustified in any way I just wish they could be lower. The only thing I'm unsure about is why the AES version costs more if both the mvs and aes versions use the same amount of materials and labour to build. But you're too busy finding things to pick on rather than caring about actual discussion.
For people who're willing to LISTEN I was responding to "I know. It sucks. Yet another reason why I might not ever collect for the Neo Geo."
I was trying to suggest that not all neo geo collecting is too expensive. I wasn't even talking about gunlord except for the difference in price between its AES and MVS release.

In my visits to my local Play N Trades, I've found several AES and MVS carts; all of which have ranged from $35 to $150. The cheapest have been loose AES carts so far. I'd still consider that too expensive. I see the same trend in collecting for the TurboGrafx16; although it seems that rarity is the most evident price gauge. If ever I hit any of those two platforms, it might be long after I've finished my entire Genesis/CD/32X collection and well into my Saturn and DC collections.
My first pickup for the MVS was the mighty 10$ samurai shodown 2. Played it for a while, sold it to a local store for 15$. I also had a guy give me a free world heroes 2 mvs cart. Back when I started collecting this stuff it was cheap I havn't looked into the market lately. Even the mvs itself was 50$ plus shipping.
Anyway I'm glad gunlord got a much cheaper port..it looks awesome!
Dreamcast cases, be it CD jewel cases or DVD cases, are standardized and easily manufactured at a subsidized cost. Neo Geo cartridge shells, are not. Either you'd have to settle for cheaper Chinese bootlegger shells, or pay for higher quality ones. Even just from pictures, it's easy to see NG.DEV:TEAM has their own cart shells made, further adding to the high markup.
Some of the stuff you say is hard not to comment on.Everything up until "... Oh wait, I forgot I was talking to Drakon..." was a great post. I was hoping you could be a man and post something without a personal attack which would be great. I guess you always have to get the last laugh huh? And the first one too?
You've said it before...Also if you take the time to read my posts I never said the prices are unjustified in any way I just wish they could be lower.
I think you forgot the snaplock shell that the AES version is packaged with. The shockbox used for the MVS version is readily available at a low cost. Those snaplock cases are definitely not easy to produce, either sacrificial cases from official SNK games would have to be sourced (extremely expensive and detrimental to the collecting and playing community), or custom manufactured (also very expensive). The only thing I'm unsure about is why the AES version costs more if both the mvs and aes versions use the same amount of materials and labour to build.
I wouldn't have to if there was nothing to correct. But you're too busy finding things to pick on rather than caring about actual discussion.
