It's a shame that this is the sole role-playing title that Atlus USA chose to publish in America for the Saturn, especially considering the number of fantastic RPGs that Atlus themselves developed for the console in Japan.
Hydlide and (especially) Super Hydlide have their defenders, so you're not alone, Melf. I wouldn't say I love either game, but I certainly like both of them; I enjoyed playing through Hydlide, and was enjoying Super Hydlide until I inadvertently screwed myself over near the end and bailed out.
I think most of the complaints about both games are overblown, frankly, and I appreciate the change of pace from game after game of interchangeable JRPG clichés.
Super Hydlide is a really good game.
Virtual Hydlide is a piece of shit.
Believe me, I know very well both games.
The music in VH is okay but not amazing either.
The fact that the map is random is interesting.
That's it.
