Used up the last of my vacation time at work earlier in the week, so I had Mon-Wed off. I decided to go see a couple movies at the theater (I don't mind paying $5.50 for a matinee showing. So on Monday I saw Fantastic Beasts and on Tuesday I saw Moana.

I enjoyed both, though I think Moana flowed a little better of the two. Also, knowing Dwayne Johnson sang "You're Welcome" himself as opposed to a singing voice double makes me shake my head and smile.

Last film I watched was Fantasic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Enjoyed it, and it was very thought provoking in an awkward way. "Is Harry Potter in fact Science Fiction?" "Was World War I Completely Different in this World?" "Where on the Magical Creature Danger Scale would Godzilla, a Beholder, a Mind Flayer, Mewtwo, a Displacer Beast, and Cthullhu go?". But on the other hand, there was all that super gross fat guy kissing, and not in the good gross that Doctor Strange had.

Before that, I liked the surprise gross-out and mystery of Doctor Strange. And even the CAPE was equally or maybe slightly more appealing than a Depressing Cinema character. Everything felt right, especially that Astral-Projection fight. And count me in on Team Mordo. And yes, Thor 3 actually looks non-boring.

Sausage Party was a great, if incredibly gruesome, story that I laughed all the way through.
    I demand a Blaze spinoff!

I watched Black Mass, starring Johnny Depp as 70's Boston crime lord James "whitey" Bulger. The real Bulger escaped arrest when the Feds started bringing down the house that he'd built and was finally captured in 2010. It's a pretty good movie, though if you don't like violence, this isn't the movie for you. The guy killed anyone that he thought was going to betray him and you get the impression that everyone was on their toes around the guy.

A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

The first one wasn't all that great either.

    And yet...

It is enjoyable schlock to be sure. It's bad, with very few redeeming qualities, but is still entertaining enough to give a watch now and again.
I couldn't stand AvP. I don't know how anyone could make a movie with Aliens, Predators, and armed mercenaries fighting against each other anything less than awesome, yet Paul W.S. Anderson managed to pull it off. It was the weirdest thing for me to wait in line for this movie (because I couldn't help myself) with the knowledge that it was probably going to piss me off - I already had a low opinion of Anderson, and the PG-13 rating lowered my expectations even further. The Dark Horse AvP series really was a great story on a silver platter, and they just about completely ignored it.

AvP: Requiem was much more entertaining to me, even though the cinematographer seems to have fallen asleep at the wheel at times. The first movie is unwatchable for me, but I'd consider the 2nd movie a guilty pleasure.

I thought the first Jack Richer was pretty bad ass. Jack Richer, Edge of Tomorrow, Oblivion, Knight & Day, and MI4 are recent Tom Cruise movies I really enjoyed.

Isn't Jack Reacher supposed to be like 6.5 ft tall in the books?

Yup. Dunno about the rest of you guys, but I kind of enjoyed it, but some parts felt like a really low-budget movie (especially near the end in the end battle with that terribly choppy slowdown after the kid pushed the guy off the roof.)

Why torture yourself, man? Willy Wonka isn't half bad though. Is it the new or old one?

It was the old one, I rather like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. ('Oompah-loompah doobity-doo! I've got the perfect puzzle for you!') I didn't bother seeing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

As for why I watch bad movies... well I love riffing them with my bro. XD That said, I do have my tolerance limits. I don't routinely subject myself to fare such as Manos: The Hands of Fate without Joel/Mike and the bots.

I recently watched The Accountant, it was funny to hear a reference to Crazy Eddie in the middle of the movie because the Antar family fraudulent business practices also very much overall liked the action thriller thinking man's entertainment aspect.

Also watched The Magnificent Seven remake it was nice, I felt Denzel Washington as Chisolm was out of place and I could not feel Peter Sarsgaard as Bartholomew Bogue evilness, but liked Vincent D'Onofrio as Jack Horne and who doesn't like Chris Pratt who played Josh Faraday and liked the rest of the cast as well.

Edit: Yes yet another movie I neglected to mention was Shin Godzilla, I had a hard time with this movie because it had english sub text which I only read half of and not only because I have dyslexia but because of news like looking feeds in parts of the movie that obscured the text also didn't like the way they portrayed the US and NATO (nuke a giant mutating lizard bc of nuclear waste??) and Godzilla evolving during the movie was (and at first looked the part of stupid with it's googly eyes) stupid. I did like the down to earth feel much like the recent Hollywood film. I would still watch it again but I really need it to be english dubbed, there is a lot going on and fast.
