It's a toss up between The Accountant and Shin Godzilla.

Edit: On one hand I am a fan of Godzilla movies but didn't have fun trying to keep up by reading the dialogue of but for The Accountant I just need to sit back relax and enjoy.

    The Wailing:

The director has been known to go out of his way to go with the more edgy ending of his films instead of telling a coherent story. This is proof of that. 3 hours that build up to fucking nothing.

    Nocturnal Animals:

Jake Gyllenhall cries in the dirt a lot while Amy Adams takes off her glasses pensively a lot. If you want an actual good film about Texas watch Hell or High Water.

Nice, that sounds like quite the collection! I would have definitely bought it just for Chopping Mall, but I would very willingly watch every single movie on there.

I watched a few movies recently:

KRAA!: Italian alien, best miniatures I've seen in a movie, and the best green screen I've seen in a movie; however, the sum of the parts don't quite add up in this one.

Howard the Duck: George Lucas's best work. Also, duck boobs.

Pulp Traction: I was hoping for Pulp Fiction on bikes. That's not the case.

Just gotta see Fences tomorrow then I'll have officially 100 2016 releases seen in said year. That's insane for me, since I usually see like 50-60.

So a couple top ten lists will be in order after that.

I've seen so many movies lately. More and more they have become a bore to me. Take, for instance, Deepwater Horizon. Surely a far cry from Backdraft and the main reason they hired Kurt Russell. An ok movie at best. Great for a Sunday matinee at home; preferably a "Netflix Original" (today's version of "straight to video"). But then again, I feel just the same with just about any "rushed" real life event turned to film. Point being, if it hasn't been at least more than 50 years, it ain't that fucking interesting.

I have no problem watching a lot of pirated content these days. Hollywood has been shit for years and as long as they keep churning out shitty Marvel movie, after shitty XXX style action movie, after shitty pseudo true to life melodrama, they're never gonna learn. Fucking Captain Phillips, fucking Sully. Hey everybody, remember The Burbs, and Forest Gump, back when Tom Hanks didn't play the same shitty character over and over? And probably still gave a fuck? Your assessment is totally correct. Can't wait for the next original IP about the Boston Marathon bombing starring Mary Mark sans the funky bunch. Or the ultimate Marvel-DC crossover: Ultimate Aquaman vs Namor 'The Re-gayening', which will probably be recorded in Mandarin, with English subtitles.

Ok it's like 1:30AM on Jan 3rd so I should get to putting up my top 10 lists already.

Honorable mentions for the best of 2016:

    10 Cloverfield Lane
    Arrival
    Don't Breathe
    Edge of Seventeen
    Fences
    Hail, Cesar
    Hunt for the Wilderpeople
    The Fits
    Triple 9
    Zootopia

10: Green Room- A horror films where literally anything can happen at anytime. It's effectiveness is brought on by the absence of things you don't realize are in so many other horror films. There's no quick edits, or musical stings to subconsciously prepare you for a kill. No one feels like a killer. Just people in a terrible situation that they don't know how to handle. Insanely good.

9: Moonlight- A film that I can't find one single thing wrong with. It's not my personal favorite of the year, but I can't deny how perfectly it brings the emotional rises and falls of this kid, who's different and everyone else can tell but him. It's a heartbreaking story at times, and one that should easily go down as a great film years down the road.

8: The Neon Demon- I'm usually quiet in the theater, like most civilized people. So when any film can bring on some kind of emotional outburst that I have to verbally say "Holy shit" then quickly quiet myself, I know I'm watching something that'll be a favorite. The moment in question isn't even a big climax scene, and not even close to some of the crazy shit we see, but after Abbey Lee creeped me out completely, then continued to be ridiculously beautiful at the same time the Neon Demon became one of the best theater experiences of the year. Imagine Black Swan but by the guy who made Drive.

7: The Nice Guys- No one saw Shane Black do another fantastic buddy comedy. If you grew up on the Lethal Weapon movies, and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was right in your wheelhouse, then yes you do need to go get The Nice Guys and watch it. It's funny. It's charming. It's surprisingly brutal at certain moments. Matt Bomer goes from playing pretty boy after pretty boy to being straight up Crispin Glover levels of creeper. A good mystery. A script willing to do what it needs to do. Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe need to do more together.

6: Kubo and the Two Strings- Laika films have already become one of the best animation studios around, and they've only done four features. Each film getting better. I'm not sure they're topping the creativity and the heart of Kubo. I wish they hadn't gone the major studio voice talent route, as it can be distracting at times, but after getting everything else all worked up, it's barely a problem. I don't really even want to talk about it. It deserves to be experienced.

5: The Handmaiden- A South Korean epic about the perspectives of love and power in a household that can't even decide if it wants to be British or Japanese. Lesbians and tentacle porn. It's long, but damn was it worth it.

4: Manchester by the Sea- Manchester is if nothing else, a film about the growing monster inside that is grief, and how sometimes we're just not going to be able to just push it away. No matter what we try. It's a great film that you'll only want to watch once.

3: Hell or High Water- A highly quotable modern western about two bank robbing brothers (Chris Pine and Ben Foster) in the middle of dying West Texas towns. Watching everything unfold without a hitch. Watching Jeff Bridges and his half Native/half Mexican partner squabble like an old married couple, chasing them down. Meanwhile, a message about the dying days of not just the west and the frontier, but of some basic American freedoms thanks to big banks and the government admittedly a little on the nose, but it hardly matters. It's also about adapting to the changes, all while shooting the gorgeous New Mexico desert, and having Nick Cave do the score.

2: La La Land- Despite the fact that I over-hyped myself on this for nearly two years, La La Land's soundtrack is already a mainstay in my car radio. It's not AS perfect as I anticipated, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a magical ride still. It's a musical where the majority of the numbers go and come easily, and aren't all showstoppers. They're short for the most part too. You're left wanting so much more, and maybe that's why it's not my favorite of the year. The limiting of the happiness of the songs and the love story is for the sake of putting forward the feelings of the characters and the true nature of the story. As much as I love this film, it's unfortunately not done as well as they would have liked, and it suffers slightly for it. It's still complete with one hell of an ending that will bring some kind of emotion depending on your mindset, and absolutely should be seen at least once.

1: The Witch- Ok so...I'm not the biggest horror movie guy. I grew up where the majority of horror stories were just generic slashers, so I ignored the genre virtually all the way. When I did try to go back and view some of the greater stories we've had since I've been alive, I found that more and more of these have plenty of merit. I shouldn't be so close minded.

Because then I wouldn't have watched The Witch. It would have gone ignored, and I'd be less for it. After leaving the theater, I was numb. It sounds poofy and pretentious to say something like that, but I was. The best I could say was my soul was shaken on the level of losing a lost relative. A sense of dread and hitting rock bottom. I didn't watch anything for weeks afterward. No other movies. Or TV. Or games. I actually didn't get back into the swing of catching up with films until months later, where I had to use the library to see everything I missed. My friend with me at the time asked if I was ok months after. He could tell.

It's irrational. That means it's amazing. It's a god damn wonder. It's one of the best films I've ever watched. What else could it mean that I'm so caught up in it. That I actually feared watching it again. So then I watched it again for Halloween with another friend who hadn't seen it. I wasn't numb this time, but I was trying hard to keep it all in. I wanted to yell. I wanted to walk away. I had to control my breathing. And try not tear up. Holy shit I sound like a tool. But it happened. He ended up loving it, and tried to pick up on the symbolism and the funny moments. I was able to actually construct thoughts this time on just how well it's crafted.

The clothing is comparable to the time of the Salem Witch Trials. The dialogue is adapted from writings of the time. The camerawork is haunting. The score is enough to pound at my skull. The acting is ridiculously good. The animal trainers. The god damn animals trainers. You don't even understand. The animals are creepy without doing anything. They shoot a rabbit with this wide angle lens and it looks like death. Holy shit I can't even go on enough about how much I'm NOT numb this time! I'm in love with this film. And it will be YEARS before I can bare to see it again.

I officially watched 100 2016 releases this year, and whittled down a list of 44 films that I didn't like to 10. I put way more thought into this than these movies deserved. Now we'll end this with my least favorite films of 2016.

    Dishonorable mentions:

    Boo! A Madea Halloween
    Hush
    Meet the Blacks
    Morgan
    The Wailing

10: Batman Vs. Superman- Guess what. They tried to hammer in so much DC Universe crap that they forgot to make a movie about Batman fighting Superman until about 6 hours into the run time. And Amy Adams exists. And it sucked.

9: The Invitation- A indie horror thriller that's getting praise because it's slow and brooding and edgy when it's really just me going "You could just get the fuck out. I mean it'd be ok...They're acting really suspicious and you have no obligation to stay." The Zodiac Killer shows up and asks for a Diet Pepsi. Because funny. LEAVE.

8: The Lobster- When an lonely person gives up and hates himself and projects his self esteem on society he writes this sandpaper dry comedy. The director also did the near perfect Dogtooth, so I'm sure he had to tone some things down for English speaking audiences. I hope he never makes an English language film again.

7: The Boy- The most hilariously bad horror film we got this year. And that's saying a lot considering. It's fun trash, but I ended up just hating it more instead by the end.

6: The Disappointments Room- In the 1800's rich people took their deformed children and shoved them in the attic. Then Kate Beckinsale in modern day picks up a ghost hammer and breaks stuff because nothing makes sense and not in a fun way.

5: Zoolander 2- There was a point where I thought this would be the worst film I'd see all year. I was wrong four times. He takes a knife to the face.

4: Collateral Beauty- No seriously fuck you. I've already had friends in real life as me why I hate this movie. I'm tired of talking about it. No seriously fuck you.

3: Masterminds- I laughed when Owen Wilson was called David Flair. Every other molecule of this film was devoid of anything resembling entertainment.

2: Max Steel- Sometimes a film is so bad you laugh. But what happens when the laughs die out and the film still has 45 minutes to go?

1: Dog Eat Dog- They shot a film in Cleveland. My home town. Nicolas Cage pretends he's from here kinda sorta. Willem Dafoe shoots a thirteen year old girl in the face after he stabs her mother to death. And he's a protagonist. My city was shot and represented better in those Cleveland tourist videos on Youtube. Fuck the "dark comedy" of this thing I watched. It's honestly disgusting in the worst way, and I can't excuse it for it being low budget, or a dark gritty crime thriller. There's just way too much to describe here as to why this is just an honest to God atrocious pile of the worst kind.

Just avoid it. Even if you like the Nic Cage straight to DVD movies, ignore this. For the sake of your blood pressure and brain cells. It's seriously the worst thing. Just the worst. Paul Schrader wrote and directed this. Yes. That one. Who wrote fucking Taxi Driver. Who did Affliction with Nick Nolte. This was his idea. Shoot me in the face.

    Here are my top 10 worst movies of 2016;

    1 - Rogue One - a fan pandering story
    2 - Rogue One - a corporate shill story
    3 - Rogue One - a toy line story
    4 - Rogue One - a race diversity story
    5 - Rogue One - a feminist story
6 - Rogue One - an uncanny valley story
7 - Rogue One - a hope, hope, hope, hope, hope, hope story
    8 - Rogue One - a boring characters story
9 - Rogue One - a no character development story
    0 - Rogue One - a face palming story

What are my fave movies of 2016? Oh I don't know, they all sucked from what I can remember. Worst movie year ever.

Unfortunately, people are not voting with their wallets like perhaps they should be - this Rogue One thing has made a ton of cash already - so that's the green light for Disney to keep doing what they're doing.

Look forward to more of these soulless sojourns into the SW universe. We have a young Han Solo spinoff to get through yet. .

    There's a reason movies are soulless today. Here's Max Landis, writer of Chronicle movie, talking about it;
