Been going through my tapes much more regularly lately.

The 'Burbs - It seems like they just don't make comedies like this anymore.

House - Was kind of expecting something along the lines of Hell Night, but it wasn't like that at all. Enjoyable movie.

The 'Burbs is one of my favourite films of all time and one of my favourite Tom Hanks films.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom - Went to the cinema to watch this on it's release a couple of days ago. There will be no spoilers as I know that it's not released over in America for another couple of weeks, so I won't ruin it for our yankee friends. OK, so first of all I'm a big fan of the Jurassic Park franchise and have been since I was 9yrs old when the original Jurassic Park came out back in 1993 (Jesus Christ, was that really 25yrs ago?!). I had high hopes for this film because I really enjoyed Jurassic World (2015), and I wasn't disappointed...much. The best way to describe this film is to say that it's really a film of two halves. The first part of the film is completely different in terms of tone and setting than the second part and, personally, I much preferred the first half of the film. Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt reprise their roles from Jurassic World and, I must say, they work really well together. Chris Pratt is just a very funny and likeable action hero type, and he oozes charisma in much the same way that Arnie did at the height of his career. The difference being that Chris Pratt can act...sorry Arnie! Dr. Ian Malcolm as played by the wonderful Jeff Goldblum, from the first two JP films also makes an appearance. He has a very small part in this film but has some great dialogue that I truly appreciated.

I've been in love with dinosaurs since childhood and, if like me you love them too then you will not be disappointed. There are more true to life dinosaurs shown in this film than in practically any JP film before it, and they look stunning. The film isn't all CGI, it really uses some very impressive animatronic models that are jaw dropping. Make no mistake, this film looks beautiful and sounds fantastic. Given how Jurassic World ended there really was only one direction the franchise could go in and I appreciate that. No more dinosaur theme parks, that's been done and it's time to move the franchise on, I get that. During some of the action scenes (of which there are a lot!) I rolled my eyes a few times and muttered "Oh for fuck's sake..." once or twice but, given that it's part of a franchise that is asking you to believe that dinosaurs have been brought back to life, maybe suspending your disbelief is par for the course. Some characters are one dimensional and do stupid things, but I think we've all come to expect that from most big studio films now anyway. All in all I enjoyed it, and as a big JP fan I can easily recommend it to fellow JP and dinosaur fans. Just don't go in expecting heady themes or high brow scenes. The film does have a message about life, death, extinction and animal welfare, but really at it's core it's just a beautifully shot action film with shit-loads of great looking dinosaurs in it. What's not to like?

That wall of text is not easy on the eyes, but really, you like Jurassic World? Seemed like the worst for me. Let's just say there were lots of, how did you word it, "Oh for duck's sake..."

Sorry about the wall of text, I didn't realize I'd written so much. Yes I liked Jurassic World, it was pretty much what I thought it was going to be, no more no less. It was a throwback to classic 70's disaster films, a genre I very much love. It was a soft reboot of the franchise, and after a 14yr hiatus between Jurassic Park III and Jurassic World, there really was only so many ways they could have gone with it.

Just meant you should have split it into another paragraph so it's easier on the eyes to follow, don't mind the length otherwise if it's an interesting read.

How do you rank the original Jurassic Park Trilogy as a big time fan? I almost completely forget what the second movie was about, just remember something about a T-Rex in the city. Seen the third in theaters while sneaking in to avoid the mall security guards.

Mrs. Armitage and I went to see "Hereditary" today. It was one of those movies where I can't say that I either disliked or liked it.

Sometimes a movie plays its cards too early - but sometimes (like this one) it doesn't play enough cards and when it does it doesn't play them soon enough. So the movie seemed to be changing genres too often. It also had a painfully slow first half hour or so. I can't recommend that someone either see it or not- depends way too much on the individual. There were a lot of interesting things to it though - they just didn't mesh together very smoothly.

The actress who played the really really odd/creepy daughter did a great job - would have been fantastic as Wednesday Addams (if the Addams family movies weren't comedies that is).

    My Name is Nobody (1973)

Seen this great spaghetti Western yesterday for the first time. Didn't know that Henry Fonda guy from Once Upon a Time in the West was in this movie too (loved that movie), even that movie's theme was used again for him for a bit by Ennio Morricone to further strengthen that connection. That cool old man from a Fistful of Dollars has a role in this movie too. Instead of Bill Carson there's a mention of Fred Carson here.

There's scenes at one point where a lot of horses are spooked and falling over with their riders, looked very dangerous (Christopher Reeves came to mind). No way they'd allow that without CGI these days.

Every time I look up an actor these days, in this case Henry Fonda, first thing I look up is if still alive followed by how they died. Though he died of a heart attack, he did have cancer too. Seeing cancer and heart failure come up a lot.

Anyway, great movie and a must if you're a fan of the Sergio Leone spaghetti Westerns. The ending seemed like an interesting twist/shock at first, but...

Haven't been to the cinema since Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and probably won't be doing so until the new Halloween film comes out in October. Not expecting much but I do like the Halloween series, even the shit ones are entertaining in their own ways. After that there's nothing on my future film radar until late 2019 when the next Bond film comes out. Huge Bond fan!

Haven't been to the movie theater since Godzilla 2014 and before that was Rush Hour 3. Got an widescreen HDTV and big sound at home no need for pricey thē-ə-tərs.

Watched Phantom of the Ritz. It was a bad movie but not in a good way, which was mildly disappointing. Definitely not the worst movie I've watched this year.

Black Panther. It's the Lion King remade with people. They didn't even try and hide it. Funny thing is a Lion King remake is in the works. So we will have 2 remakes of the same movie within a couple years and the best part. It will be Disney's 3rd remake of Kimba the White Lion. Lion King is my fave Disney film of all time but Disney acts like they hate it.
