I saw Captain Marvel because some friends were going to see it. It was fun to see my friends but the movie bored me... sorry to be a grouch in the thread, lol.

CGI special effects are generally not appealing to me, and these superhero movies rely heavily on that. But it's just watching computer animations for two hours.

Practical effects are so much more interesting, because you're actually looking at real things...

^ +1 for practical effects. I'm always hesitant to watch remastered movies as I'm afraid they're going to CGIify all of the practical effects.

You folks would appreciate the Void, then. It's mostly practical effects for the monsters, also a downright solid horror from film.

    Geostorm

When it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it is a duck. The previews were awful and when I see a preview that doesn't entice me to see a film I know it isn't for me. This time I went against my instinct and my god was it a bad film on so many levels.

Mrs. Armitage and I watched Apocalypto tonite -we really enjoyed it.

The latter portion was very reminiscent of one of my favorite films - The Naked Prey from 1965.

Both movies are pretty intense - but well worth watching if you enjoy such things.

I stumbled on this trailer today whilst looking for something else:

It looks like something I will enjoy - so I think I will order it when I next order stuff from Amazon.

Jaws. For like the 100th time, and it's still one of the greatest films ever made that actually improves with every viewing. Gotta love the arsehole Mayor of Amity. "Please, get in the water." I'd be like "What? With a fucking 25 ft great white shark swimming around out there?! Fuck right off! You get in the damn water!"

Had a bit of a movie marathon yesterday afternoon and here's my report:

    Ghost Ship (2002)

The Shining meets The Poseidon Adventure in this clumsy and extremely predictable early 00's horror film set on a, yes you guessed it, ghost ship. Gabriel Byrne is in it though so that's always a bonus.

    Rocky Balboa (2006)

An excellent and very touching film directed by Stallone himself. It's sort of an exploration of what growing old means and how you deal with the changes in your life when you can't do the things you want to do anymore. Oh and it's got some boxing in it. Easily up there with the first two Rocky films in my book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and even shed a tear or two.

    Rambo III (1988)

Rambo is back and this time his mission is to rescue his friend and mentor Colonel Trautman, who was captured by the Soviets in Afghanistan while he was trying to supply weapons to the Afghan rebels. What follows is a mindless but bloody good fun 80's action movie, complete with a gloriously over the top villain and gory death scenes. Highly recommended if you like 80's action movies like Commando and the like. Personally I love films like this. Just switch your brain off and watch Rambo take on the entire Soviet army single handed. Oh and the Mega Drive game of this movie is good too.

    Just sitting down to Endgame.

I think it’s pretty safe to say that the rest of my life is about to start.

Damned if that one doesn't have one of the sickest openings I've ever seen to a horror flick.

Poltergeist and Ghost Ship and only just now seeing the posts above me also watching it. I always liked it despite how bad it is. I just felt if they relied less on the crew is joking with another cliche because you know they are dead and just went more on the ghosts it would have been cooler. A lot of the film feels rushed. They tried so hard to be The Shining. I love the concept but I think I'd love to see a similar concept with a Netflix show. Oh and Poltergeist is still good.

PLanet of the Vampires. While this is kind of a cheese-filled B movie from the 60s. There is something surprising about it. There is a scene where some of the crew in spacesuit walks into an old spaceship crashlanded on a planet. Inside they find the corpses of giant aliens. It's extremely similar to Alien in 1979 when they find the dead pilot.
