Oh that's gonna be fun, just on the premise alone.
I watched the first Iron Man movie, and it still holds up even today. Not sure I'll see the two sequels, they weren't as good as the first. Second movie's villain was boring, and third movie was just boring full stop. Kinda wishing we get a War Machine spin off movie, that could be interesting.
Blade.
It's aged like milk on a hot summer day. I don't mean the CGI either. It has about every cliche from the era wrapped up in one film. Just every scene and bit of dialogue it's just one big *sigh* Superhero & Action films have come a long way since Blade.
Phantoms (1998)
Disappointing with this. Touted as one of the influences for the original Silent Hill, it sure does hold up to that. Deserted town, creepy shit happening, monsters, hell there's even snow and fog. But then 30 mins in, the film changes direction and becomes something else. It drops the psychological horror and becomes scifi horror. Little sad by that.
Still liked it, overall decent film. Acting is okay, story starts off a little rushed, but it's watchatable. Just not a fan of the genre shift mid film.
I read the book back in the day. I didn’t like it.
Spiderman into the Spiderverse. Not bad. It was enjoyable. Still, nothing tops the original 2 Spiderman films for me. As enjoyable as this new one is. I still feel there are far too many set action pieces. Raimi films had a great way of showing a more personal side to make it relatable.
Covenant would be fine as a stand alone Alien movie or side story. Personally, as a huge fan of the franchise, it was a massive letdown/waste of potential.
Crystal, I’m not sure I agree with the first part of that statement, but I certainly agree with the second part.
It was not until Last Jedi that I left the theater as angry as I did after seeing Covenant. Scroll back a dozen pages in this thread, in fact, and you’ll find me losing my shit over it.
Jackal, I’m glad you liked it, though. Don’t look at me like that, I’m being serious.
Don't get me wrong, I didn't care for it at all. If it was unattached to possibly my favorite movie franchise, it wouldn't be nearly as bad as all the reviews made it out to be, but still fairly terrible filmmaking. Personally I liked Prometheus, and quite a bit more than most, it would seem. I thought a lot of the subtext would lead to an excellent sequel that would flesh out the Genesis of the xenomorphs, instead, continued the trend of part 3, and Resurrection, to further the destruction of the goodwill the first two films created. Ridley Scott back at the helm was supposed to herald a return to greatness, but instead we got one mediocre sci-fi movie, and one James Cameron style action movie featuring Kenny Powers.
