Any one else seen American Gangster more than 5 times ? epic movie
Mrs. Armitage and I saw Maleficent II this morning - one of those rare occasions where the sequel surpassed the first one - not that the first one was at all bad. This one was quite a bit darker in tone overall - aside from a cutesy beginning and the happy fairytale ending (which was appropriate since the movies are fairytales).
Went through some more tapes:
Deadtime Stories
If the production values had been any higher on this, I think the enjoyability factory would have decreased.
Cut
Heh.
The Alien Within
This had some really nice practical effects. I like what they did with it. This might be the best three-movie stretch in a long time.
Two movies I recently watched.
Annihilation - The climactic scene is the worth the price of admission. Which is good because some other parts were really not great. For a minute it turns into a bad monster movie with a terrible CG bear. Some people complained about all the main characters being women, but if anything I think they should have gone further in that direction -- the two significant male characters, and the scenes focused on them, were among the weaker aspects of the movie, and their screen time should have been cut.
Midsommar - Didn't have an amazing climax but definitely has a similar issue of starting out lame and getting more interesting as it progresses. The early scenes could have been cut in half. The ending itself is a little meh, but leading up to the ending is very solid.
Both of these movies seem to have a "love it or hate it" reputation but I didn't feel that way. Both of them were okay. Interesting concepts but kind of uneven, and not the best pacing.
You just can't handle my jawusumness responces.
^ That's just a head. Outside of a few closeups the bear was CG.

The other day got a chance to see Joker.
It's one of those movies you can respect, though it's a little harder to like, IMO. Basically, an exploration of what causes a lonely, unhinged man to explode.
Maybe it's better to treat it as if this wasn’t of a superhero/supervillain origin at all; that it's just an intimate tale of a dangerously insane man.
I was initially really pleased when I heard that J Phoenix was going to be playing the Joker. I think he is perfect for the role. Great actor, looks the part. But when I eventually watched the trailer I really didn't like the looks of it. Idk I'm just not feeling it.
Yeah I'm probably going to watch it tonight and try to have the mindset to just enjoy the film for what it is, and to try to keep my inner comic book nerd from getting too triggered. Ima keep Batman 1989 handy in case I need to get the bad taste out of my mouth afterwards. Nicholson's Joker still brings a smile to my face. "This town needs an enema!"
The movie was such arse that, even though I can't remember the full name, I refuse to click on my watchlist for the title. Anyhow, it was a recent movie about Sharon Tate starring some Disney chick. I made it literally 20 seconds and then called it. The chick had bad plastic surgery from her Disney days and acting? Hell, one or two sentences and I wondered if she really is a trained actress as she was that bad. Avoid this movie like radiation!
