It has been too long to say exactly what. Plus I'm really not into movies enough amymore to even care.

I wouldn't mind seeing There Will be Blood, just for the historical perspective, but it would also give me a refresher on PT Anderson's work.

Last week I watched the modern release of The Man With the Movie Camera. It was very awesome. I watched it again with the walkthrough commentary track which was very educational and interesting as well. The new backing music track is quite impressive and really makes a great experience.

Lockout: Loved it. I really wasn't expecting much on a $20 million budget (in 2012 standards), but it turned out way better than I expected. Already I've seen the previews for "Dredd" and I'm already thinking, with a budget of $45 Million, I sure hope it can at least do as good (until now I thought a $45 million budget on a SciFi Dredd film in 2012 wouldn't cut it, but Lockout sure brought my hopes up )

    [EDIT]
I just finished watching American Reunion. It was good.

I have high hopes for the film as well, but am thinking it'll probably be awful

Looking at the trailer makes me think it'll be even less like Judge Dredd than the 1995 movie, which at least got the setting, special effects, costumes etc right, and included lots of characters from the comic books, this looks more like Die Hard with Judge Dredd in it.

Oh well, so long as it does well maybe that will open up the way for more 2000ad movies, and later remakes which get closer to the source material.

Yeah, the 1995 film looked way more futuristic. Based on the Dredd previews, this one looks more like a straight to DVD movie.

I just don't see people seeing this trailer and being wowed into going to see the movie, I mean, its not bad or anything, but it just doesn't stand out that much IMO.

Visually, and story wise the Judge Dredd comic book has so many cool ideas, and interesting characters, why not have a fight scene with a fully CGI'd up Mean Machine played by an imposing actor in the film, that would make for a much more interesting trailer, a cursed earth setting filled with mutants/monsters? more focus on some of the tech?.

Instead we get a block of flats and a drug bust storyline

I really wish Paul Verhoeven had made a Judge Dredd movie sometime in the 90s between Total Recall and Starship Troopers, I think the guy would've been perfect to do it.

    --------------------------------

Also, on the subject of Verhoeven, I kinda' feel sorry for the guy, I mean they're re-making three of his movies at the moment, what's the point?! Hollywood has just gotten so lazy now

A storyline and thematic that would make for a proper Judge Dredd film would require way more than $45 million. It's gotta be epic. Even in the news articles I've been reading for a couple of years now, you can tell the producers have been extremely stingy about their budget. You can't make an epic SciFi film like that (not in the year 2012, anyways).

Yeah I guess that really is pretty low, I just checked Wiki and even Total Recall had a $50-$60 million budget and that was over 20 years ago!

You'd have thought they'd be able to drum up more investment in the 1st place though, I guess the unpopularity of the old movie makes people think its a bad idea from a business proposition

Don't get me wrong, though, I'm a huge fan of the 1995 Judge Dredd. I fucking loved that movie.

But getting back on track, yeah, where I'm getting at is epicness. In the movie lockout, they didn't need that much money to make a believable SciFi scenario. It came out perfectly good with just $20 million.

I agree that the whole downsized plot about a simple drug bust of this new Dredd film feels bland and mediocre.

I don't hate the 90s movie either, I thought it was a very flawed adaptation, but I found it fairly entertaining and liked a lot of it from a visual standpoint (ie it was cool to see some of the comic brought to life, and it was a nice touch to include the ABC Warrior too), its just that it felt very dumbed down, and the tone was all wrong.

The new film looks like it could be at the other extreme though.

Still, who knows, maybe it'll surprise.

Give There Will Be Blood a watch. It's easily one of the best films from 2000-2009 if not the best.

And btw, The Amazing Spider-Man was freakin great. If anyone still has a bad taste in their mouth from Spider-Man 3 this really makes you forget all about it.

I really like Judge Dredd from 1995, too. That movie, Demolition Man, and Total Recall were some of my favorite sci-fi films at the time, even though they are kind of like big budget B-movies. Judge Dredd would have been a better movie, though, if he had actually spent most of the movie as a Judge and less time as Stallone. By the way, it never seems to get mentioned but Rob Schneider was excellent as the comic relief and sidekick.

I didn't know there was a new Dredd movie being made. If they focus on Dredd as a Judge, it could be good despite the low budget.

Bad Ass (Danny Trejo): It was mediocre and it filled my Sunday matinee urge just fine.

Brave: I expected it to be about something else, but I enjoyed it.

    The Amazing Spider-Man:
If you watched the original with Tobey, the you saw the better film. This new reboot was a mess that ran on empty. It fed on everyone's previous knowledge of the characters and made no serious attempt to develop any of the characters. Even the essence of Spider-Man's powers was brought down a serious notch (I kept thinking he was going to run empty of web and fall to his death; or someone else's). It brought some eye candy to the table, so I'd give it a 6.5 out of 10. Other than that, every single aspect of the first film this movie attempted to reboot upon was mediocre and completely anticlimactic; from Peter getting his powers to him learning how to use them. Did this movie need to be made? Most definitely not. Did I enjoy it? Sure, why not?

Bad Ass need's to come to Cleveland already. (This is also my go to catch phrase for any film that distributors don't feel the need to send to Ohio until like a year later. Bernie)

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Far more entertaining than the new Spider-Man film.
