So, it's been 10 months since I've posted. I think most of the people who remember me are gone, and the Raul Julia influence has finally passed. Which is fine. But I saw something horrible just now. Horrible enough to make me come back and bitch about it.

THIS is The Addams Family Bluray cover:

    Just...good LORD!

Lurch is a different actor entirely. I don't know where they got that picture of Mama, and Fester is some damn shitty photoshop.

THEN THEY DRAGGED RAUL JULIA'S CORPSE OUT AND SAT IT IN A CHAIR AND TOOK THE PICTURE. This is really irritating right now. I can't even explain it.

Yeah that is a shame. The original cover was pretty good. It conveyed the feel of the movie well.

Saw man of steel finally... And while it was great action, the whole movie just felt so hollow to me.
First off... We all get it, we do NOT need another goddamn superman origin movie ok? We know who he is, we know where he's from, damn near anyone from a kindergardener to a 100 year old great great great grandparent can tell you about superman... Enough already with redoing origin movies!

    Also, spoilers ahead.

Making jor el "gladiator-dad" was also meaningless and did nothing but provide action for the rather boring first half of the movie.

It should have started with the ship being found and zod appearing soon after.

Related.. Superman would not have jut let his dad get sucked into a damn tornado... Even as much as I enjoyed watching coster get snuffed like that.

And the part at the end? So superman is smart, powerful, cunning, etc. and can snap zods neck like it was nothing.... But he can't force him to look a different direction? I don't know... Up, or down maybe? Or trip hm back or forward so he can't heat vision the people who are too dumb to run away?

How about choke him out? Sacrifice his hand to poke his eyes out? Head but him till they both get knocked out? Fly up with him?

It was just such an idiotic forced choice that they might as well have had zod write "unrealistically forced moral dilemma" on the wall with his heat vision during the scene.

Other than that, the effects were good, acting wasn't bad, and it's obviously set up for sequels.

    Ok, I'll handle this!

    1. Clark secretly (yet obviously) wanted his "dad" dead. He was just acting as if he cared in front of his "mom", whom he really cares for. Watch the scene again. He holds a ton of resentment towards his "dad", and it's pretty obvious when he says "you're not my dad!", and you can see it in his face that he wanted to finish that sentence with "...and I'd wish you'd just die". Look up the oedipus complex. He wanted his "mom" for himself.

    2. Clark could have killed Zod at any given moment, but what Clark was REALLY doing throughout the movie was testing human beings' resolve to fend for themselves - How much was he truly needed on earth? At the end , he was testing that family's resolve to move out of the way, and when they didn't, he finally just killed Zod off. Clark was actually angry that the family wouldn't move out of the way, which made his self-imposed responsibilty to the human race appear much greater than he probably anticipated. All that information is clearly there upon a second watch.

Ok, now I know what it feels like to defend a movie so passionately while completely talking out of my ass... and, yes, I do get tired of them going over origin stories again (Spider-Man especially comes to mind), although I didn't mind Man of Steel's take on it. Personally, it's the most fun I've had with a Superman movie. I get your gripes with those scenes, but I really didn't think about them much. The wave of destruction in the last half hour had me giddy in a way that I haven't felt in years with other movies that attempt large scale destruction.

Watched The Odd Couple last night (after working out how to get US Netflix to work in Ireland.. big improvement in the selection). It's so good I can see how it ends up in a lot of those best comedy of all time lists. Its barely dated at all and still hilarious. The dinner date scene had me in tears.

Just watched Bladerunner: The Final Cut tonight. Pretty nice update to an old classic. This is one of my favorite scenes in the movie.... for some reason, Cowboy Bebop comes to mind - the episode called Jupiter Jazz. Dont ask me why I just work here.... >_>

    Aladdin (1992)
First time I've seen this in what...12 years? Very enjoyable, but it doesn't hold a candle to either Lion King or Toy Story.

    Return of Jafar (1994)
This killed a portion of my childhood. I used to LIKE this when I saw it years ago as little kid, but rewatching it all nowadays; yeah, it's the epitome of a turd. Straight to video garbage aimed at the kiddies; and now I know why Disney get some much flak for it.

    RIPD (2013)
This looked like the dumb kind of action movie I use to see all the time, but seems to be missing in this day and age. And it wasn't. Just a Men in Black ripoff just with ghosts in place of aliens, and none of the humour or clever writing. Passable movie, but very boring.

    The Frighteners (1997)
Oh Lordy, does the CGI in this movie stick out like a sore thumb these days. Still, slight grievance aside, thoroughly enjoyable romp. Is this Michael J.Fox's last good live action movie role before...you know?

Well, Fox was in Mars Attacks! after The Frighteners, but after that he's stuck mostly to voiceover and TV work.

    WNUF Halloween Special

Definitely a lot more real and atmospheric than other "found footage" movies

Was Mars Attacks that good though? I watched it back in the day, and found it a bit boring tbh. I guess a rewatch couldn't hurt.

Watched the reboot of Robocop during the premiere here today and I’ve gotta’ say it was way better than expected.

It didn’t reach quite the emotional level and character depth of the original, but it did handle the IP pretty well.

Some major gripes though is that they still went with the Über ultra clean shiny glass surfaces and holograms future.
I just wonder who has to clean off all the fingerprints.

They managed to squeeze in some funny jokes,
but it didn’t really capture the same kind of dark satire that the original portraied.
But one thing they could pull off now with the help of CG is that we get to see him being stripped down to the organic components.
It looked a bit silly though.

It was way obvious though that this one was more aimed towards action than the original.

All in all I’d say I’m glad I watched it, but I ain’t going to lift it above the original.

I won't bother wasting my time on Robocop. The original was perfect, and didn't need to be remade.

It was okay. About the only reasons to watch it are Jack Nicholson and a young Natalie Portman.

    Elivra: Mistress of the Dark.

Now was it just me or was that hardcore aphrodisiac casserole that she whipped up actually pretty tasty looking?
