Default Sonic 2 - CD Edition

I would really like to see Sonic 2 ported to the CD, just so I can head bang to this shit when the game plays.

Yes yes, I would.. It must be do-able.. Even if it's still a cartridge ROM that just triggers the CD to play a track on repeat rather than using the built in music code.

    OR this

Pier Solar has something like that where it'll use the music off the cd instead of the cartridge. I think we would have to make another sonic 2 cart so it has a feature like that.

I'd be all over a sonic 2 CD...I just wonder how easy/difficult it'd be to make it happen...

cart + CD soundtrack has been developed for KEGA, but noone has really used it yet.

(there is a Sonic 1 CD, but it was just a proof of concept demo and not fully developed.)

I would think a cart + CD for sonic 2 should be a decently easy hack, instead of using the built in music driver, just load tracks from a CD on repeat 1.

Sonic Megamix (which is a hack of Sonic 1 ported to the Mega CD) has CD music now, so it is indeed possible. Just needs someone with the know-how and time to do it.

That could be done, but there's no way they could provide CD tracks for every game and fit it onto one CD, unless they were kept very short, like a minute or less short.

Pier Solar's soundtrack disk proved that trying to use better compression on CD Audio tracks just results in a lot of hardware rejecting the music too. I'm not sure I would be all that keen on an arranged Sonic 2 soundtrack during the game. Now if somebody could hack the ROM and create a soundtrack that used the Ricoh's 8 Channel ADPCM to add to the music and sound effects in some meaningful way I would be very excited.

Wasn't there a branch of the GENS emulator that did something like this?

It was actually easier for me to find than I thought, so here is the link http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_2_MP3_Tool

Basically you use this along with a specific version of GENS and there you go, mp3's in your Sonic 2!

I'd love to have sonic 2 with a triggered cd soundtrack.

That would be awesome to have my favorite game with even better music.
