Duh, run 'n' guns and shmups are the same.

Wiki is the only source of the definition regarding SHMUPS. However, there is no distinction made between SHMUPS and Run and Guns, considering that there is no specific set definition for the former term other than the literal wording of the acronym SHMUPS is Shoot Em Ups, it would make perfect sense to say that all Run and Guns are, in fact, SHMUPS, and not all SHMUPS are Run and Guns. If space-ship SHMUPS were prefered on this thread, then it should have been specified. That's my point.![]()
My point exactly. All run and guns are SHMUPS but not all SHMUPS are run and guns.

Did you just... agree with yourself?
...
Anyway, I think it's safe to say that you, I, and others in this thread don't agree on the subject of what is and isn't a shmup. Quoting Wikipedia won't change that, and stating that the term has regularly addressed games like R-Type, but rarely games like Contra, won't change it either. Both tactics have been tried, and got nowhere. So rather than derail the thread any further, the debate ends here for me. Unless of course, you want to make a thread about the subject. Then we could argue all we want![]()

Thanks, Theretrogamer12345.
Now let's let the run'n'guns, which ARE NOT shmups, out of the thread.![]()
Common consensus is that games like Contra aren't shmups and i don't feel they are either. Keep the thread to the normal implied meaning
Thunder Force IV
Whip Rush
Bio-Hazard Battle
For now anyway, I'll change my mind next week. Gaiares on the way in the post, could change everything!

is there something wrong about his neck?
Yes. Just like the lead Singer of System of a Down, they have no neck.
Shmups and run n guns are closely related, but not exactly the same. Kind of like action-RPGs and action adventures, another long discussion at this forum.

Sorry. No. I have a life & I've expended enough on this already. Again, If people can't discern that the acronym SHMUPS stands for "shoot em ups" and critical thinkers will question this notion that this only stands for space shooters, that there is no set definition, that Wikipedia was referenced only because it's the only (again) mainstream source of the definition (which, again, can be changed by you who think so highly of themselves that they think to debate acronyms without set definitions), that the second reply that you've quoted was replied to another person on the thread, and that you fail in understanding that correcting someone on a term that does not have a set-definition on a thread that should be FUN makes you look ridiculous, then it would be an endless loop of mindless lifeless and thoughtless nonsense.![]()
