Really man? Somehow I imagine a furore if it were to be said "I like PSIV, but it only gets so much praise and attention because of how poor the Genesis is for RPGs in general".
The first stage is a bit offputting and all the vertical sections slow down too much but I see nothing wrong with the play, it's challenging enough, not cheap, has good to great graphics and good to great music each depending on the stage. Bosses are good too.

    @ Curryman = yes.

Yeah. It's a bit generic in ways, but it's still a solid shmup.

I would certainly disagree with that statement, but I can see how someone might think that.

Like I said, I like it. It's just not really a top-tier shooter. The main thing it does to stand out is that graphical effect (forget what it's called). The gameplay is pretty much standard fare.

J_factor dude...there are many great shooters for the Snes. Having a weak processor doesn't mean it completely lacks in that category.

I didn't say anything about its processor. I just find it lacking in that category. I like Space Megaforce, UN Squadron, Axelay, Pop'n Twinbee, and R-Type III. That's about it, and only the first two are really fantastic IMO.

Don't forget Parodius 1-3, Flying Hero (very underrated), Bio-metal, Gradius III, Macross, and Cotton 100%.

I'm not forgetting them. All of the Parodius games are better on Saturn or Playstation. Gradius III has horrible slowdown that really detracts from the game; thankfully, they made that PS2 version. Biometal is rubbish and has a shitty soundtrack. Cotton 100% is not nearly as good as the original, and is also on Playstation though I don't really care much either way. I didn't care for the Macross game, it doesn't really go anywhere and the music and sound effects are really repetitive and irritating. Flying Hero is just boring, and has lame graphics and sound.

Well it seems like Mr.j_factor has never played the Japanese version.

That is correct, I haven't. That does sound a lot better.

Indeed, for some reason they removed all the better soundtracks of the game over here and replaced them with that basketball music crap, it's decent at least.

I find it rather funny how SNES fans make fun of Sega for coming up with Blast Processing when some of the claims on SNES boxes are equally silly if not more so.

Both "Mode 7" and "Blast Processing" were just dinky little graphical tricks

Though SNES really did get the upper hand on Sega with the Super FX chip to be honest. The Genesis was capable of running Polygons in real time, but not with that kind of precision or accuracy

Honestly the Genesis runs polygons on par with the SuperFX chip on it's own if you ask me. With the SVP chip it runs circles around both Super FX chips.

    Without Chips:

    With Chips:

Without chips it's pretty close to what the SNES does with Starfox and the SFX chip.
