Any chance you could insert your spreadsheet into a post here? Goldenband was going to make a separate thread (linked in this one's OP of course) once we began on the New Year anyway so it might as well be you making the thread as you've already done the groundwork. In addition to the obvious it would also have the advantage of everybody's being able to read it w/o needing to create a google account.
Or if you and goldenband agree the list should go in this OP I'm sure Baloo could move it.
Sometime soon I'll collect all the "or/maybe" claims in a post, perhaps that'll nudge those members into decision. I just don't feel up to it this minute.
Wow. I can beat Mickey or Donald paths on World of Illusion, but both at the same time? This is gonna be such a challenge....
I might beat the Mickey path on January 1st... maybe Donald on the 2nd..
^Beating just one path should be enough. We've already discussed this. Anything more would be superfluous and at the player's own risk for further enjoyment.
I'm busy with a real-life deadline, but very briefly:
- My intention has always been to start a brand new thread once this project actually starts. The first post would have a list of all the US releases in it, with the beaten or ineligible games either with astrikethrough(as Thenewguy suggests) or gradually removed to a second list (which I think will be less messy once a lot of games are beaten). This is the way they do it at NA, and I think it works well.
- I'm not planning to start that new thread until late December. Otherwise it just adds to the confusion.
- SpaceFlea, I very much appreciate what you're doing with the spreadsheet. I haven't been editing it because (a) Google Docs (or whatever they're calling it now) acts wonky on my aging Mac laptop and I don't want to mess anything up, but also because (b) until recently, I've had my hands full just keeping the posts here updated, and (c) I think it's important to have an updated, in-thread post (which the spreadsheet complements, but shouldn't replace).
- Honestly, if I had to do all over again, I wouldn't let anyone "claim" anything, since it encourages gold rushes and bureaucracy. Over at NA, they have nothing more than a gentleman's agreement not to poach a game if you know someone else is working on it. That said, if everyone fulfills their claims, we'll hit the ground running here, so that's nice.
- I've been updating the first post in this thread (except for the last 1-2 claims -- I'll add Curryman123, but BlockABoots wants three ponies). I agree that "maybe" claims are a hassle, but for that reason I haven't bothered to count them.
- I personally think it's awesome if someone takes the time to beat all paths/all difficulties/whatever, but it's not required for this project.
- If no one else wants to, I can certainly beat Shaq-Fu on Normal in short order. Hard/Expert/whatever, though, that's a different story -- right now that's my big white whale (!) of the Genesis library.
the quickest completion at 20 hrs 44mins (quickest for IV is at 23hrs+, but feel free to break that too) & once again, that was in one sitting. Also, maybe a newbie to the forum, but check my games list...
- If no one has claimed them:
-Micro Machines II (Turbo Tournament)
-Phantasy Star III (Lyle story).
-World Cup Italia 90
-Mutant League Hockey
-Super Monaco GP
-Mega-lo-mania
-A Golden Axe/Streets of Rage...don't mind which: SOR3 if going.
Loving the project idea guys.
Welcome aboard! Right now we're asking that people normally claim no more than 2 games at a time, plus all the sports games they want. We're only doing US-released games, so Micro Machines II is out since it wasn't released in the States.
Mutant League Hockey is yours, but World Cup Italia 90 is the PAL version of World Championship Soccer, which was claimed by Sheath, so that's out -- but it'd be awesome if you'd be willing to do another soccer/football game.
OTOH, Mega-lo-mania is available as Tyrants Fight Through Time, and I don't think there were any regional changes besides the title (can anyone confirm?), so if you're willing to do that, awesome. Strangely none of the SOR games have been claimed, so how about this:
Streets of Rage 3
Mutant League Hockey
Tyrants Fight Through Time (Mega-lo-mania) (assuming PAL and NTSC are identical, otherwise PSIII)
a different soccer/football game
And then, if no one else claims them, SMGP and PSIII next year once those are done. Will that work for you?
I think I'm ready to make my own claims:
- Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade's Revenge
- Super Hydlide
- Davis Cup Tennis
Hell yea I love this idea, I'm done with college and my job will be one that I don't take home with me so I'll actually have time to participate in this.
I would like to claim
- Mega Turrican
- John Madden Footballs '93
Added! And thanks for grabbing a sports title, much appreciated.
...yep, it is.
So with a couple weeks left, are there any "gotcha" games still in the pile, or any games that should be removed from consideration (see SpaceFlea's excellent spreadsheet, linked in his sig & the first post, for a list)?
One I'm concerned about is Populous, which has an insane number of scenarios. Also, what about the Menacer 6-game cartridge?
What about Blockout?
I don't think it is possible to beat that one, it probably goes on forever like Columns (not sure, though).
