    Streets of Rage 3
    Mutant League Hockey
Tyrants Fight Through Time (Mega-lo-mania) (assuming PAL and NTSC are identical, otherwise PSIII)
    a different soccer/football game

And then, if no one else claims them, SMGP and PSIII next year once those are done. Will that work for you?

Yeah, that all sounds good; as the soccer game - trade in Tecmo World Cup 92 (my carts a genesis one, so I know that one's fine) if nobody's taken it.

Are there still unclaimed games? It would be much more convenient if there was a list of games still unclaimed, so people who are new to the project can easily decide if they want to participate.

Did someone already claim Wonderboy in Monster World IV?
I also have Bloodshot, which I intend on beating sometime soon, but never really played beyond first level. I might be getting Battletoads & Double Dragon for Christmas (got a package of games that will be opened on Tuesday) which I can also beat.

Also I'm working on beating SOR 1 (almost done, main difficultiy is I like to paly in Japanese mode and the dialog with the last boss keeps sending me one level back, don't know why) and the first Ecco the Dolphin.

^Go to the first page. *Control F* to find out if your desired game is taken. If not, you may claim your own.

^^ Yeah, there's also a link to Spaceflea's google documents list on the front page.

Plus there's this list of sports titles. http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthr...l=1#post530092
I haven't updated it in a little while and it's probably not needed with Spaceflea's list available but it might be of some help for those looking to pick their poisons.

I know what Ctrl+F does, but games can be spelled differently. Like Wonderboy in Monsterworld might end up looking like WB in MW or whatever. Mortal Kombat can be spelled MK etc.

Just found the link to a spreadsheet on Google docs in the first post. That's what I've been talking about, this is much more convenient to choose from!

Fine, so I claim Wonderboy in Monsterworld IV and Boogerman, those two I own and can beat on real hardware.

Two games for a person seems a bit too low, there are lots of games yet unclaimed. If one assumes that the library consists of, say, 700 - 800 games you'd need 1400 - 1600 people that way.
It would be easier imho if we could claim up to five games. One sports game could be made a requirement to knock them off the list somehow.

I'm honestly willing to play and beat just about anything that I own on cartridge.

The limit is a short term limit. Beat your two (+ sports game) and move on to some more. The lower number will also keep people more motivated and focussed. Some players will not want to complete many games and some will be capable of far more--cf the thread on Nintendoage where 3 people have contributed 300+ completions. Also, your arithmetic is inverted.

Hmm, you're right. My excuse is I was bored at work when posting it :P

I own Mutant League Football, Fifa 95, IMG Tennis and NHLPA Hockey. I didn't really play them a lot but I'll try to beat at least one of them. I'll look into those and report back here before January.

Yeah, SpaceFlea did great work with that. The only reason we don't depend on it exclusively is that (a) it's important to also make it available "at home" on Sega-16, especially to people who choose not to have a Google account for whatever reason, and (b) Google Docs runs horrendously on my antiquated machine and browser, and updating it takes about 20x longer than it should.

I'll be posting the "official" thread for this project within the next couple days, and it'll start with the mega-list. I'll have a big warning asking people not to post in the thread until December 31st at the earliest, and to keep their claims to this thread. I'd like to keep the official thread pretty clean/bare/free of random discussion until the project starts, for obvious reasons.

I'm assuming you mean Wonder Boy in Monster World, right? That's fair game, but MWIV wasn't released in the US, so it's out.

Yes on Outrun, but Super Fantasy Zone wasn't released in the US, oddly enough.

If you want a totally mindless conquest, I suspect that IMG International Tour Tennis can be beaten by doing little more than throwing up lobs. That said, taking on NHLPA Hockey '93 would be hugely appreciated -- the hordes of team sports games are the biggest threat to completion.

OK, I spent an hour putting together a FAQ for the official thread. Here it is, pending formatting and layout tweaks. Any feedback? Anything I've left out?

    -------------

Can Sega-16 Beat Every Genesis Game in 2013?: The "Official" FAQ

    Q: What's this all about?

A: We're trying to beat all 711 officially licensed, US-released Genesis games within the calendar year of 2013. This is inspired by a similar thread over at NintendoAge, where as of this writing they're only 10 games away from beating all the licensed US NES releases.

    Q: Who can participate?

A: Any registered member of Sega-16 with at least one post to their credit.

Q: What games can I work on?

A: Any Genesis game that was officially released in the US during the lifespan of the Genesis.

Q: Where can I see a list of those?

A: In the first post of this thread, or in SpaceFlea's excellent Google Docs spreadsheet which separates the list into available, claimed, beaten, and disallowed games.

    Q: What games are disallowed?

A: Anything that wasn't released in the US, anything that wasn't released by a publisher licensed by Sega (e.g. Wisdom Tree games), anything that isn't a game (e.g. Art Alive), and anything that's just a compilation of other games (e.g. Genesis 6-Pak).

Q: What about Pier Solar/Super Fighter Team games?

A: Disallowed, as they're not officially licensed by Sega.

Q: What about Sega Channel games?

A: We'll have a special annex for those games. It's not officially part of the main 711, so consider it a fun side project, like an exhibition sport at the Olympics.

Q: I have the European/Japanese version. Can I play that?

A: If the game plays the same, it's fine; cosmetic differences can probably be overlooked. But games that are substantially different (Marble Madness) or easier (Bare Knuckle III, Dynamite Headdy) are definitely out. If there's any question about differences, ask and someone will know the answer.

Q: What about Sega CD / 32X / Master System games?

    A: Not happening this year.

Q: What's this about "claiming" games?

A: Posters are allowed to pick 2 games that they're going to be working on, and informally "reserve" them so no one else inadvertently starts working on the same game.

We ask that people not simultaneously claim 2 popular games, especially not 2 popular games in the same genre or series. Claiming Sonic 2 and Phantasy Star II = bad; claiming Justice League Task Force and 688 Attack Sub = fine. However, people can claim as many sports games as they want.

Once one of those games is beaten, you can pick a different one to replace it. However, if you "claim" a game and you don't post about it for a month, it automatically goes back into the pool.

Q: Do I have to claim a game to work on it?

A: Absolutely not, but it's helpful to know that you're working on it. Also, please don't be a jerk and play a game that someone else is working hard on.

Come November - December, most of this goes out the window, as the #1 priority becomes getting it done.

Q: What's this about a sports game "requirement"?

A: If you claim a really popular game like Sonic 2, we ask that you also take on a sports game. Otherwise we'll be drowned in sports games at the end of the year. Out of the Genesis's 711 official releases, over a quarter are sports games! You can see a list posted by StarMist here.

Q: But I don't own any sports games, and I only play on real hardware!

A: Chances are high that someone will be happy to send you a sports game from their collection. Most of us have extra, unwanted titles.

Q: But I don't wanna play a sports game! I just wanna play Sonic and Shinobi and the gun game and beat them and have everyone say how great I am!

A: Tough! (Can I interest you in a pony?)

Q: How do we prove that we beat the game?

A: We're relying on the honor system, but photographs or screenshots of the ending credits are strongly encouraged. The best thing of all is to take a picture (with a camera) of the final screen, with a little slip of paper against the TV/monitor that has your username on it.

Q: Can I use my old passwords or save games?

A: Absolutely not. The game has to be played from start to finish between January 1st and December 31st. Otherwise, what's the point?

    Q: Can I use emulation?

A: Yes, but don't use savestates, that's cheating.

(Possible exception: you can use savestates to temporarily suspend your game, i.e. if you're in the middle of a game and something catches on fire. But don't resume more than once from the same savestate. If that explanation doesn't make sense to you, just don't use savestates at all.)

    Q: What about codes/cheats/debug modes/Game Genies/pause button slowdown?

A: No to all of those, with one exception: if the code is listed on the manual or in-game, then it's OK. For example, Altered Beast lists the game's continue code in the manual.

Q: What about in-game exploits, or taking advantage of bugs in the game?

A: Those are fair play, unless they totally destroy the integrity of the game. We all know the difference between a clever trick and something that feels like cheating.

    Q: What about turbo/autofire?

A: Generally OK, especially in shmups (there's no excuse for a post-1988 shmup not having autofire), but if it feels like cheating let us know and we can discuss it.

    Q: What about walkthroughs?

A: You can use one, sure. But c'mon, try to beat the game without it first, especially if it's a puzzle-solving game.

Q: What about playing in co-op mode?

A: Generally OK, but this will vary somewhat by game. Don't start a game of Marble Madness just to make Player 2 lose.

Q: Do I have to get the best ending?

A: No, but you have to get a good ending. By design, bad endings don't really count as beating the game. If you're not sure, ask in-thread.

Q: Do I have to play as every character/get every ending/play every path/get 100% completion?

A: Generally speaking, no, but we'll take it on a case-by-case basis as necessary.

Q: Do I have to play on the hardest difficulty?

A: Only if that's necessary to see the full game or get the best ending. Otherwise, you can play on the default settings or the equivalent of Normal (not Easy). But if you want to beat it on the hardest setting, that's awesome, of course!

Q: What if the game has no ending?

We'll take these on a case-by-case basis. In some cases, beating the high score will be enough; in others, getting to the highest possible level will do the trick; and in others, we'll have to figure out some sane compromise.

Q: What about sports games? How much do I have to play in order to beat them?

A: This is a real problem, and may be a bone of contention. Again, we're worried about getting snowed under by the system's 175+ sports games. The basic sense is this:

    - If you're allowed to skip straight to the championship mode (e.g. the World Series), then beating that mode is good enough to beat the game.

    - If the game requires you to play through a season to reach the championships, we're not sure what we'll do about that. We don't want sports games to sink this effort, but we also don't want to dumb things down too much. Baseball is the biggest issue, obviously.

    - What's awesome is when someone actually enjoys these games and is willing to see them through. Some of our resident sports fans get tired of taking crap for their sporty fondness, so be nice to them and maybe they'll take one for and from the team.

I think the google doc is caught up now minus a few indecisions and "pony" picks.

    Everything looks satisfactory goldenband.

    Here are some minor suggestions:

Make a thread (or dig one up?) for illuminating which PAL and JP games will be acceptable. These differences are a popular source of discussion anyway.
@ Baseball = many games should have an innings option, though perhaps Season mode will disable it. Still it's something to look for.
Sports players who feel cheap about beating a lone exhibition game could raise it to max difficulty and period length.
I would like a pony. I left my last one in a closet and forgot to feed it.
Would you reserve me Strider 2? Sorry if I'm missing it but I searched the front page to naught and I can't use Spaceflea's list.

I actually have a column for that in the spreadsheet. Though only a few have been noted.
