Default Battletoads in Battlemaniacs, a successful game ?

I dont remember this game getting the hype and praise that the original Battletoads on the NES got. Also if it was a sequel, why the heck wasnt it called Battletoads II ? Calling it Battlemaniacs only confused people, myself included.

It confused the hell out of me as well. What's funny is that no matter how difficult the original Battletoads on the NES remains, I still enjoy it.

But to hell with the speed bike level. Those ramps have the most ridiculous physics/logic.

I thought the SNES game was great. The characters are much larger than the NES version and the graphics were a huge improvement (which sadly wasn't the case for the Gen port). The game is definitely a sequel as the story is completely different, but the level design isn't really all that different than the NES game. The toads have more moves and animations and the game has a lot of humor. Some of it reminds me of Earthworm Jim. I kind of want to dig it out and play it now that I'm thinking about it. Great game.

I rented it once when I was a kid. I liked it then, I'm looking up gameplay footage and it looks like a great game from what I'm seeing so far. Definitely one I'll check out if I can find it for a good price!

Really digging the music in this...

I'm fairly well-rounded with the classics, sir; the 8 and 16-bit realm is kind of where I stay grounded lol. What other titles did you have in mind that I may NOT have played?

I didn't like Battlemaniacs. The levels are lame. They're basically concepts from the first game, but more poorly executed. Also, in the first level the finishing animations (while cool-looking) take too long and I often find myself getting hit by another enemy from behind while I'm in mid-kill. Very annoying.

This is the first time I have heard of people being confused about it being a sequel. Everyone knew Zelda ALTTP was a sequel even though there's no 3 in there.

I agree that Battlemaniacs wasn't as hyped as the original. I would be curious to know the sales figures for both.

Battletoads in Battlemaniacs is one of the best SNES games, hands down. A worthy sequel, if only a bit easier and on the short side. Superb graphics, outstanding soundtrack, exquisite gameplay.

Sort of 1.5 sequel, which for that matter Battletoads Double Dragon was as well. Neither game holds a candle to the first for originality or system showcasing so it's no wonder the series died off.

I've never tried battlemaniacs, I've tried the nes and genesis versions but I thought they sucked compared to the awesome battletoads arcade game. it probably didn't help that I played the arcade game first.

It's fun, but not as original as the original. It's more like the graphics enhanced highlights of various parts of the original. I think Battletaods Double Dragon is the better game, gameplay wise.

No other titles, that being my point.

The bike levels were NOTHING. Wait till you get to the insane races.
