Battletoads in Battlemaniacs was a bit of a letdown for me. It was the first Tradewest game that I felt had alot of potential but fell unbelievably short back in Early 1993. Like everyone else here, I was quite a fan of the first Battletoads game, so its debut on Super NES was something for a 10 year old kid to get hyped for. Granted, for my tenth birthday, I got Super Mario Kart and by the time there was consideration from my stepdad on which game my 4 year old brother and I wanted in January 1993, it came down to Turtles IV.

BIB's biggest letdown to me was the sloppy hit detection, difficult learning curve, and making Zits unplayable. Keep in mind, this was the beginning of the end for Technos Japan, they went under in December 1994.

    The soundtrack was AWESOME though!

All the NAYSAYERS will be silenced forever when Orbi get's its "Notice of Allowance".

I think some of Battletoads' success was due to the Nintendo Power hype machine back in the day, and Battlemaniacs (as well as BT and DD) didn't get the same treatment. I always wondered if it was butthurt because BT & DD went multiplatform, and Nintendo Power, being a propaganda mag, mostly covered exclusives or games that were clearly superior on the Nintendo machine. Or maybe it was just because most gamers moved on to EGM/Gamepro/UGP/etc.

would battlemaniacs be worth buying for $30? I've been wanting to try it for a while and found a cart locally but didn't buy it yet.

RARE made Battletoads, and Tradewest, an American company out of texas, published it. What does Technos Japan have to do with that?

I honestly thought the graphics were absolutely breath taking. Rare always worked their asses off to push the systems they worked on to the absolute limits and it shows

Battlemaniacs certainly feels like a far more punishing game than the original was

I think he's getting Battlemanics confused with Battletoads & Double Dragon: The Ultimate Team

Tradewest has always published both Battletoads & Doubledragon games. I had forgot Rare handled most of Battletoads licenses.

As for BIB, the difficulty is RUTHLESS. Nobody I knew could get pass the 3rd level.

Turtles in Time was an absolute stellar classic. It was the best Turtles home port to have been released. Don't get me wrong, TMNT 3 was the first decent NES Turtles game, and I'm not even going to count that watered down clustermess arcade port or that GODAWFUL unplayable, annoyingly stupid hard first NES game, but TMNT IV got nearly everything right.

I remember the game being quite popular when it came out on September 23,1992. That weekend, I remember seeing long lines of kids at Kaybee Toys waiting to play the first public display demos(Back in the early 90s, A+ list titles' promotions and sales came from being available for display in retail stores.) ToysRUS had sold out most copies so everytime I asked my stepdad to get me a copy, it would be sold out.(This was the days before the Internet, remember everyone, you couldn't really pre-order a game back then. You could either buy it a the store or order a mail-in copy.)

When I finally got it in January 1993, memories of me and my brother breezing through the game as Leo/Mike and Don/Ralph were created. I loved the soundtrack, the unlimited continues(A strong selling point for this port) and also loved the fact that you had to beat all 3 difficulties in order, to get an actual ending.

Loved Battlemaniacs. While it was still a bit hard it was more forgiving than NES Battletoads. Nothing a little bit of memorization couldn't fix. The time I spent mastering the original Battletoads enabled me to brezze through most of Battlemaniacs since the two were so similar.

Battlemaniacs is a whole new game for the Super NES, They didn't want to call it Battletoads 2

If they made the sequel on the NES then it be called Battletoads 2

I'm honestly kind of curious as to why Rare never decided to revive Battletoads or Killer Instinct, but I guess the Stamper brothers leaving after Viva Pinata had something to do with that too

That's awesome! I love stories like this . I remember my buddy getting it right when it was released, and we were all obsessed.

I respectfully disagree, sir. And this is coming from someone who loves Streets of Rage 2. It comes in second to Turtles in Time for me, which is still my favorite beat 'em up of all time.
