    Those can be repellent.

What would be some of your other unbeatable NES games? add MD games if you're feeling gabby.
Regrettably I have to put forth 3D Worldrunner. A cool game but at 8 worlds it's 267% longer than I can finish. 8 Eyes is another but I suppose if you've your son handy he can control the falcon for you. (You do have one of those? Sorry if I got that wrong). Super Spy Hunter's looking out of reach as well.

Starmist, I must say that when it comes to Ninja Gaiden at least the game has a flow to it and is very easy to control. Castlevania has shitty controls in comparison and jumping is a stiff nightmare. Ninja Gaiden just has ridiculous enemy patters and terrible respawn points. They improved on the general basis in the two sequels on NES, even if they are still hard as balls. They are much more playable though than pretty much any 8-Bit Castlevania game on controls alone. I can get frustrated and still want to keep playing in Ninja Gaiden, I can't say the same for Castlevania though. NostalgicMachine pretty much made a great point about the stairs, I can't really think of any points in Ninja Gaiden where the landscape of the level itself is infuriating until at least 6-2 in the original Castlevania.

Between Castlevania, Zelda II, and Ninja Gaiden though I don't think any of us will forget that awful motion of jumping back after getting hit. What the fuck. I'm at the very last palace in Zelda II, another excellent but equally as difficult game. That one too has solid controls though. It may be the black sheep of the series, but despite similarities to other side-scrolling NES games I wouldn't call that an unforgiving piece of shit either, though at some points in the game it really is.

Agreed, Nintendo Age is pretty much the biggest example of this. I don't think they even talk about actually playing video games there, and that is THE Nintendo hub.

And this is why I'm glad I'm in the NESdb.se community instead of NintendoAge

We even have a weekly game equivilant of a book club, where 3 random NES games are selected,
we vote for one of them and then everyone sit down and play it and discuss it either alongside playing it or at the end of the week

I went in a Nintendo Age video chat once (without connecting my webcam). They were talking about completely banal shit, yet constantly making misogynist remarks, and one guy was using the word "faggot" almost every sentence.

    Fuck those guys.

Also, I'm still butthurt about the slabbed gold NWC cart. I mean come on.

If NG hadn't that automated sticking to walls "ability" (not an ability when it's automated) it would have been ten years ahead in terms of control. Even as it stands not 5% of 16 bit games have its degree of control. But that wall stick sucks and is aggravated by the evil knockback.

I was skimming a bit of their Gamers' Gauntlet threads after goldenband posted his Can Sega-16 Beat Every Game in a Year? thread and were members were remarking on the same thing. NA's beat-every-game-in-a-year thread is composed of a shockingly small amount of players.

Edit: Okay, a quick Internet search found the cart you're talking about, but I don't understand exactly what has happened or what it has to do with NintendoAge. Did this guy just turn a gold NWC cart into a solid plastic brick?

I also just didn't like the look and feel of the SNES version (MD/Genesis one was way better in my eyes though)
The NES version came out in late 1993 here in the U.S., and it's definitely a 50/50 toss up with fans. It's very dark (visually), and it's packed with stuff in an attempt to match the SNES and Genesis versions.

But I agree, the Genesis version is where it's at for Tournament Fighters.

Hijacking this conversation, I'll say Ghosts n Goblins for the NES. It has the same one way jumping that Castlevania has. I'm going to include The Lone Ranger as well, simply because of it's huge areas to explore and complete and the mixed gameplay.

I dunno, maybe Ghost n Goblins...

The thing is, after faulty software cock-blocked my triumph over NES Castlevania, I turned my attention to Castlevania Chronicles on the PS1. That was probably one of the hardest games I've ever completed (I'm not counting modern games). Making progress through that game, however, was fairly illuminating, since areas that were completely impassable on my first attempt became surprisingly manageable with practice. This victory made me rethink all those hard games I'd attempted in the past, and now I'm thinking that I could eventually beat most of them if I put enough time into it (again, providing they offered unlimited continues).

So to answer your question, I don't think there are many games I would truly consider "unbeatable." Any game that doesn't offer unlimited continues or some kind of save feature (password or battery) would be on that list, as I probably now lack the time and patience required to make my way through a game in marginal increments over repeated attempts.

I'm tempted to say Mega Man 1, as I've only beaten that game on the Anniversary Collection, but that also featured broken controls, so I'm a bit more confident that I could pull it off on the original hardware.

I did not really care for the original tmnt on the nes, it just wasn't that great to me. I did enjoy tmnt 3 for nes, I used to rent it a lot during the 90s.

    LMAO!

AVGN actually says he liked the game growing up. Which is understandable because its decent in short stretches, but when in later stages it just turns into a total pain in the ass.
