You'll be really damn lucky to find on of those. I never owned one. But played it quite frequently during my middle school years. Playing SMB. 3 on one is just an experience you'll never forget. The way that controller feels.....

Which do you all prefer? The arcade version of TMNT or turtles in time?

No neutral options like "both" either. Choose!
LOL I prefer the original arcade game as I grew up on that. I didn't know TIT was an actual arcade game till the late 90's or so.

Hardly. They can easily be had for $80-100.

I found my toploader locally for $54, no controllers of course, but that can be gotten in due time.

A NES top loader for almost $100 doesn't seem like its worth the trouble. Now for $60-70, its a steal.

There were several in stock at my local retro-gaming stores last year, but I didn't have the cash at the moment. I'm in the market now, and I plan on acquiring a top-loader one way or another.

That's actually a fair price, as long as it includes the RF/AC adapter and dog bone controller. That controller is SO damn comfy! They are going for $75-$110 used on Amazon right now.

The dogbone's button ergonomics are flawed though. When playing mario games i like to lay my thumb across both buttons, so i can both hold down B to run & still press A to jump with my thumb.

Buttons angled upward like that make it that tough to do. Also didn't the top loader systems have RF video output only?

I think the original NES controller is slightly less awesome than the dog bone. This is all personal preference, of course.

As far as I'm aware, it's RF only. This is a minor deterrence, as the top-loaders are typically more reliable/less glitchy when you're playing for hours on end.

I've never had any problems with the controller. I remember two of my friends from school owning top-loaders, and vividly recall Super Mario Bros. 3 playing like a dream.

agreed, the dog bone nes controller is awesome and very comfortable. when I tried a dog bone controller 2 months ago I found it so much better then the original rectangle controller.

also there is a av version of the top loader nes but it was only available direct through nintendo in the us so their very very rare.

Wow, I was unaware of this! I'm sure this is rare a hell; the RF adapter is enough for me.
