metalslugs and mutation nation look great.

of course we could play any game for free nowadays ,but I think we should give SNK credit for remaking the neogeo and hopefully other companies follow.Plus the arcade stick looks and feels much like the original ,I rather play it with original controls then the shitty ps2 controller.

I'm waiting to see what games they release for it and how much they're going to cost. It doesn't seem like it's going to play ROMs... at least until someone cracks the format they're using. The included 20 games is a mix of great, good and okay.
if they can crack the ps3 and xbox 360 , this thing should be a piece of cake , just a matter of time

Not to mention that the handheld seems to have the same digital thumbstick as the neogeo pocket (which is freakin' amazing).

And the AES arcade stick repro is USB, so if there's no native support someone will most likely add third party support for it on PC sooner or later.
So you can use a classic styled neogeo stick for neogeo emulation if that's your thing.

It's still analog. It's 8-ways clickity, and that's what makes it awesome. But only because it's the same as the Neo Geo CD pad; which is what started it.

I've had mine preordered for a month or so now, so I'm just waiting until the 6th to pick this one up. Yes, I get that it's still an emulation console (It's a Linux OS running a custom emulator using a 1GHz ARM processor and 2GB of RAM which should be more than enough for an emulator), but it's also a means for me to be able to play certain games like Garou and SNK vs Capcom Chaos without paying 100-200 for the MVS versions (to say nothing of the AES version prices). I wholly expect this thing to be hacked shortly after release, and that's fine with me. I still have a dedicated console I can use on my HDTV (It has HDMI and composite out, no component), with what look like exact 1:1 replicas of the original NG joysticks. I'm stoked.

I'm not denying any appeal of this device. However, I feel that for the price (and odd widescreen), it's a huge ripoff. Why is it more expensive than the 3DS?!

It's still analog in the sense that it has actual analog components.

But analog stick is usually the term to describe a stick with more than just ON/OFF values after all,
while digital sticks is used to describe more or less a stick variant of a dpad which only allows for ON/OFF values.
Albeit digital stick isn't exactly a term used too often as it doesn't boast a modern technology.

To my knowledge both the NeoGeo CD, NeoGeo Pocket and NeoGeo AES sticks are digital sticks as they rely on 4 microswitches for input.
If that would've been let's say potentiometers then maybe it might've been declared an analog stick instead.

Because the 3DS doesn't come with a badass docking station, arcade stick controller and 20 games?

Having the arcade stick, made just like the original could be a deal maker for me. I have the Metal Slug Anthology for PS2, and while the games are awesome, playing them with the PS2 controller is not. Also HDMI out is killer, and getting a handheld that turns into a home system is pretty sweet.
    BUT
How faithful is the sound? That is usually never emulated correctly. Also, when you play a game, does it feel right? I fear that there is a small part of me that would always think, "your only playing an emulator, it's not the real Neo Geo".
And if it doesn't play, or sound any better than any of the other ways to play these games, then, why bother?
Overall, it looks like a great deal though.

I guess will have to wait and see how good it compares to the original. This console is getting alot of hype and its sold out on amazon,Sellers are now asking $399.

Except what makes the Neo Geo CD pad and NGP(C) "sticks" great is they are a mix between a D-Pad and the typical clicky arcade stick. Other than that, all Neo Geo "sticks" work on the same basic electromechanical design.

I saw this, totally ridiculous. I know GameStop is super lame but AFAIK the X Gold and the separate arcade stick are still up for pre-order there. I've been eyeing one of these for a while but I just can't justify it with the shitty job that I have now Still might plop the $50 bucks down to reserve one and hope that it's still there in January or February in case I have the scratch then to pick it up.

I'm gonna wait and see on this one. For me, everything stands on whether or not the emulation is up to par.

I'm waiting until at least 10 hard copy cards are released.
