Sad to say, but I really didn't grow up with a sega system at first hand.
But at least I didn't grow up on the SNES :Y

I had a NES back in the day and the games I played the most on it by far was
    TMNT II: the Arcade Game
Great game to play with friends, interesting bosses, rockin' music and interesting gameplay
Note though that TMNT III was never released here, otherwise that would probably had been a really great experience too.

    StarTropics
My first top-down adventure game. Truly an amazing one at that. I mean it had a like laser'ish yoyo and a submarine piloted by a robot. Top notch.

    Shatterhand
Now this one was a really amazing game. Played the everlasting shit out of this one. It's sad that it's not quite as well known as some of the other NES games.
It's also sad that people who play it doesn't seem to know about the jetpack move or the throw move.

Super Mario Bros 2 (doki doki panic)
The definite mario game for me. I had a few goes with SMB3, but SMB2 just seemed more like the type of adventure I wanted.
Spent countless nights trying to make it all the way through, the desert level was especially tedious.

    S3&K
    Sonic CD
    Vectorman 1 & 2
    Super Hang On
    Outrun
    Revenge of Shinobi
    Comix Zone
    Phantasy Star II
    Sonic 2
    Columns
    Golden Axe
    Kid Chameleon

These are the games that really introduced me to Sega around '02-'03 and hold a special place with me because I was going through some tough times back then and these games were some of the few things that gave me solice and took my mind off my troubles.

No, it's unbiased analysis. The only fanboyism is people who claim that Hyperstone Heist and Bloodlines are actually as good as their SNES counterparts.

Growing up I wasn't allowed to have a video game console. That said I had a game boy, game gear, and a kick ass computer. I also had a coleco with the Atari adapter but had to sell it.

Smurfs coleco vision. I could never beat it, I was three, never could jump on that skull.

Pacman Atari 2600, played it to death.

Kings Quest Series, played and beat 1-7.

    Wolfenstein, nuff said.

Super Mario Land Gameboy. Beat it while the family drive to Disney in a station wagon.

    NES

Super Contra. It was pretty hard for a 7 year old to play, but as time passed I got better.

Duck Tales. Fun, amusing and odd.

Metal Mech. Underrated gem from 1990. I used to play this sucker like mad trying to beat it.

Bases Loaded 2. Rented it and played because I was and still am a SF Giants fan.

Mega Man 4. Favorite MM game. Felt more solid than the first 3. Loved the originally in regards to the special items.

    SNES.

Darius Twin. Awesome soundtrack. Smooth Shooting.

Gradius III. Arcade port that I was proud to have owned. The game was challenging, but epic.

Mega Man X. This was Rock on Steroids. Just everything about it was testosterone,

Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. Late SNES game, but since I'm a Yoshi fan, I went for it.

Mario is Missing. I actually like this port.

    Genesis.

    Mortal Kombat. A,B,A,C,A,B,B, and "DULLARD".

Aladdin. The first movie tie in I played that didn't suck.

Wily Wars: Rockman's first taste on SEGA hardware. Was worth getting Sega Channel to play it.

Crystal's Pony Tail. Girly sissified Nostalgia gasm.

Sonic & Knuckles. Greatest Sonic game on the Genesis and 2nd greatest Sonic game of all time(Sonic CD). 'Nuff said.

My first system was a Colecovision back in 82', and I had the roller controller, atari expansion module, and steering wheel for it, so practically anything on the Colecovision would really bring me back. Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr, q-bert, Centipede, Slither, Defender, Turbo, Looper, Zaxxon, Mouse Trap, Smurfs, and Jungle Hunt are particular games that would certainly work as a time capsule of sorts of that era.

Arcade games like Elevator Action, Final Fight, Double Dragon, Tron, and Gauntlet would do the trick too, as well as a ton of NES usual suspects.

As far as the Genny is concerned, Sonic 1+2, SoR 1+2, Strider, TJ&E, GnG, and Golden Axe 1+2 are the ones that really take me back to the awesomeness of being a teenager during the first year of owning a Genny (bought with my own hard-earned money, I might add). Sonic 1 and SoR1(my first 2 Genny games) trully blew me away at the time.

He had thought that the 90s' was the greatest era for arcades, because of games like Street Fighter 2; It was just totally different. Everytime I hear the opening theme song to Pac-Man, I'm brought back to a time when I first saw that game in a smokey bar room of the local bowling alley. When I hear the opening theme for Donkey Kong, I'm reminded of the first time I saw that game in our local arcade, and how I blew $14 in quarters playing it non-stop. There's just too many arcade games to mention from that era of the arcades. I miss it so much, and no matter how many home console games I play, they'll never match the excitement those games brought to me as a gamer.
I remember that convo. Jesus_arnold, right? Next to you and J_Factor, he was probably the most argumentative member this site has ever seen!

    • The House of the Dead 1/2 (Arcade)
    • Mortal Kombat 1/2 (Arcade)
    • OutRun (Arcade)
    • Primal Rage (Arcade)
    • Sega Super GT (Arcade)

Area 51 and Maximum force was based on the Atari Jaguar.

I didn't get a sega genesis until 1997 and the same for a snes and I had to hide them from my family.

It was like one the last good Arcade games released by Atari.

ColecoVision was the Dreamcast of its day. It was cutting edge, easy to program,it had a strong library and a MUCH better Controller than the 5200. Like Dreamcast, it died young because the manufacturer was financially strapped.

I first played ColecoVision in '92 a decade after it launched. A kid at my best friend's school owned it. It was given to him by his dad who also gave him a Turbo Graphix 16. I played Mr. Do,Mouse Trap,Rocky III,Zaxxon,Donkey Kong and many others.

The neat thing about ColecoVision was that it was the first game system that attracted strong Japanese 3rd party support. Both SEGA and Nintendo were big publishers on the ColecoVision.

ColecoVision launched on August 26,1982. It was heavily marketed as bringing the TRUE Arcade experience at home and that at the time was actually true.

ColecoVision's CPU the Zilog actually became VERY popular during the 80s so popular that SEGA used its silicon in the SG-1000 shortly after and would recycle the Z80 processor over and over again in its Arcade boards, the Mark III/Master System and even the Mega Drive/ Genesis as its sound processor.

Those games were licensed to Coleco. Sega and Nintendo didn't publish or develop those versions.
