Sega Arcade Classics Vol 1 book by Harcore Gaming 101

One of my favorite video game sites, Hardcore Gaming 101, has put together a book titled "Sega Arcade Classics Vol 1" in color, b&w and PDF formats. If you're not familiar with their site, they do write ups on various series as well as obscure games (at least they are to me). I really enjoy their in depth reviews and always thought a book would be neat of such. At any rate, more info of this book is at:

I like GameSpite a lot. What's wrong with their take on Sega? I haven't read that one yet, but I like practically everything else Jeremy Parish has written.

It amazes me how Parish has become such a famous name among gamers. There's nothing special about his writing, and his opinions on classic gaming are just the usual Nintendo-centric garbage. He doesn't come across as knowledgeable at all.

I disagree with just about all of that. He comes across as very knowledgeable to me. There might not be anything particularly special about his writing, but that doesn't make him a bad writer. I like his opinions, they're interesting to read. And it's not like he's a pretentious a-hole like Tim Rogers or something, a "rock star video game journalist," or what have you. I honestly don't see what's there to dislike about the guy.

There was discussion in another thread over the biases and omissions in his Metroid family tree chart. And he has reviews on his website that start out with stuff like this - "Games like this make me so very glad I owned an NES instead of a Master System."

Fanboy-ish system trolling is not exactly the most professional thing to do even if it's for a shitty game (not that this was for a shitty game, it was for Kenseiden).

Now that's a retarded thing to say.
Kenseiden is one of the few SMS titles that can battle head to head with the NES heavyweights.

Games like Sonic 2 make me glad I owned a Genesis instead of a Super Nintendo. I don't see how that makes me a fanboy, though. Everybody has their preferences, and liking Thing A more than Thing B doesn't mean you necessarily hate Thing B. I'll never understand the mindset that professionals shouldn't be allowed to have opinions like everyone else, either.

Besides that, there are plenty of Sega games that Parish likes. Just because he doesn't like Kenseiden doesn't make him biased (also, the Kenseiden write-up on his website wasn't even written by him).
