It doesn't. There's a difference between having a system preference and unnecessarily making system comparisons over a bad game. Would you review a Super Nintendo game you thought was bad and say you're glad you owned a Genesis instead? Every system has bad games. I think it sounds trolling to mention another system in that context.

Besides that, there are plenty of Sega games that Parish likes. Just because he doesn't like Kenseiden doesn't make him biased (also, the Kenseiden write-up on his website wasn't even written by him).
Who wrote it? Other reviews on that site give the names of the reviewers when it's not him. I don't see another name there.

Is this the Kenseiden review you're talking about? Because it's the only Kenseiden review I see on his website. And it says, at the very bottom of the review, that it was written by Lee Hathcock.

Unless you're talking about a completely different website.

This is the one I first got:
    http://telebunny.net/toastywiki/inde...Site/Kenseiden

Back to your previous comment it is different to mention a game one likes on the system one prefers as a reason to be glad one had it (Sonic 2 = MD win) from naming a game one dislikes on a system one dislikes as a reason to be glad one had the other (Kenseiden = NES win).

Ah, okay. Didn't see that one. Still, even within that review he uses Shinobi as a positive point of reference. So I don't view him as some kind of Nintendo Elitist.

I hate to talk bad about the guy because I really like his stuff, but, on his retronaughts podcast which he was apart of for nearly 100 episodes, he had some pretty poor things to say about Sega in the past. About the Master system, about Sonic the hedgehog. About numerous other things. The thing is over the past few years he's really not that anti Sega but if listened to him before he was pretty infuriating sometimes. Me admittedly grew up owining Nintendo systems and had a love for their franchises. Nothing wrong with that. But go to 1 up and download the SMS podcast or the Sonic they Hedgehog podcast and see of you don't think he let's a little unprofessional bias out. He seems ok with Saturn and Dreamcast. These are not someone writing articles on his website but him speaking in the flesh.

I loved that podcast series, but man was the SMS episode an absolute joke. It's possibly the worst episode I've listened to. It was as if not a single person on the whole panel even had a rudimentary knowledge of anything to do with the system. I felt like I was listening to a Segafan's podcast.

Nobody had played any games extensively, nor owned the system at it's prime, nor knew much of anything regarding the market outside of the USA. How can you be on a SMS podcast panel and have never even heard of Golvellius?

That sounds like the first Retronauts I listened to. It was so beyond horrible that it was also the last one I listened to.

I remember complaining on a message board saying that people working for a major gaming site should be able to hold a basic conversation on a Sega system. And not surprisingly, the gaming media defense force came in saying stuff like "Golvellius is an obscure game, you can't expect everyone to know about it". I don't expect everyone to know about it. I do expect the relatively small number of people that get paid to write/talk about games to be knowledgeable on the subject, especially when it's the very topic they're supposed to be doing. It's called having standards and caring about the way gaming history is being portrayed to the world.

I picked up the PDF last night, and so far I'm impressed. I'm even considering ordering one of the print versions if funds permit, being the holiday season and all. I only got through the first few pages, but it's an intelligently written piece thus far. Can't wait to see what the next volume will bring.

My color version shipped today, so I should have it tomorrow. Any mention on what type of paper was used in the color version?

I gave up on Retronauts after listening to the Teenage Ninja Turtles Episode (no Parish in this one). This episode was not kind to Genesis TMNT games (I expected that), and it also featured a nasty comment about Genesis owners by Kate Bailey.

If he didn't know about Golvellius then, Parish obviously holds the game in high regard now. This is from the article on the game in GameSpite Vol. 12, which he wrote:

Clearly Golvellius’ inspiration came from Zelda, but Compile put its own action-y twist on the game. Then Sega reworked it for Master System (as they did with practically all third-party games) and came up with something frankly superior to Nintendo’s own Zelda sequel. Golvelliius played fast, moved fluidly, and sported vivid graphics with bosses that put its NES competition to shame. There’s something to be said for overspecialization in game design… but diversity yields its own rewards as well.
Doesn't sound like he's trolling Sega there.

I'd say Konami was the one who wasn't kind to the Genesis TMNT games. Haven't played Hyperstone, but I couldn't find much to like about Tournament Fighters! And I tried damn hard.

Hey all, this is Kurt, editor-in-chief of HG101, publisher of this book, and author of approximately 85% of its content. So if you have any beefs, they'd probably be with me.

60# stock. I wish there was an option for thicker paper, but the printer doesn't offer it.

Ideally, if this does well enough, then I'd put the profits towards a regular print house (as opposed to print-on-demand). I'm not sure of what the demand for something like this is, so I wasn't entirely comfortable with maxing out all of my credit cards and potentially having hundreds of overstock sitting on my house.

Hey Kurt! I'm a big fan of HG101. I've spent hours on end reading about games I love, as well as learning about titles I've never heard of before. I love Your Weekly Kusoge, too! Thank you for your dedication, I really appreciate it!

Rep'ed for HG101. I love the details you put in descriptions, especially when comparing different versions of games available in many consoles. There's a lot of valuable details in those articles that you'll not find in other sites. Yes, I'm a fussy fella.

I like almost all the content there but one article that I remember as a superb work is the one dedicated to Another World/Out Of This World. The general rule in the Internet is to see people hyping the 3DO version all the time for no reason besides the backgrounds (that only look good on screenshots IMO). But there you pointed how the new music version just don't fit the game well and the new art design is arguable to say the least.
That's the kind of stuff which, IMO, the Internet lacks. We have tons of self-glorified jerks spreading superficial/inconsistent/biased info and just a few guys doing a consistent contribution like yours.
So, thank you and keep up the good work!

    Thanks!

Someone on my blog requested that I take a video of the book, so I shot something real quick and posted it up on Youtube:

I should note that the Out of this World article was written by Audun Sorlie, who also did the massive TMNT article for the site. He was working on a huge look at the Batman franchise, though I haven't received it yet.
