Still, that's quite impressive. If you need cybernetic implants to get those last 6 levels, LMK and we can set up a Kickstarter.

I'm willing to count it, of course -- I've already added it to the beaten pile -- and that scenario is exactly why a picture isn't 100% required. But if you feel like doing another playthrough, a picture would certainly be welcome.

@The Coop: Victory #200 is yours! And #201 as well. We're creeping up on the 1/3 mark...

I'm not sure whether this one counts or not. I was just messing around with Triple Play '96, trying to get a feel for the pitching and hitting, and decided to play a full game. The game has a "Championship" mode, and you're given the option to select the number of games in the series, so I chose a one game series, and managed to win that single game, thus winning the championship… I assume.

There was quite a bit of fanfare when the game was over, complete with an elaborate scoreboard animation and players rushing the mound, but the celebration didn't seem to be all that specific to winning a "championship". It was certainly more fanfare than I'd expect from winning just an ordinary game, but it never actually proclaimed me the "champion", just the "winner". This could just be due to the game not having an MLB license. I don't know.

Anyway, opinions? Does playing just one game, jumping right to the deciding game of the Championship mode, even count?

I'm new to this forum. But I'd like to participate. I'm going immediately start working on Pitfall and World Seires Baseball 96. I'll post updates. If anything gets iffy.

We talked about the possibility of using a single-game or limited-length championship mode in games where it's available, so I think it's legit. What I've done is to count it, but with a little note saying that the 1-game mode is what's been beaten. That way if someone who adores the game comes along and wants to take on the full season to supplement your work, they can.

Same if it turns out that there's a fuller ending in a longer mode, though the ending you got sounds pretty high-grade as it is, at least compared to what I've been seeing in the sports games I've beaten...

Sounds good, and welcome aboard! Thanks for grabbing a sports game right off the bat. Feel free to post updates however often you like (within reason), but an update within 30 days is definitely appreciated.

Speaking of updates, I've beaten three scenarios in the Campaign mode of Warrior of Rome II. It's been pretty cut-and-dried so far, but the ones I've completed have taken 1-2 hours each -- so with 15 scenarios total, this'll take a while.

Sure, that'll count as your sports game for your Bonestorm claim. Remember to beat Shoplifter mode.

I really feel as if there's a serious lack of appreciation for the sports game the Genesis had to offer. A lot of people see them as worthless and outdated. Which is fine for me, because what other games can you find CIB for 99 cents. I personally think NHL 94 is the best game that was released on the genesis and I picked it up in the box for 50 cents.

If I play Flicky anymore, I think it may kill me. I am a broken man.

Do you know that it isn't the dick stages, the ones where I can't develop a consistent strategy, where I die? It's the ones where I have developed an utterly flawless pattern that I've executed a dozen times in a row without the tiniest mistake. I die in these places, and I can't fathom why or sometimes even how I deviated from my established pattern. And once you've died, the pattern is gone and it ain't coming back. You'll die again and again. Then you get to the hard part you've been dreading and you die there TOO. And you only ever get eight lives total, as it stops giving you extras for points around stage 14 or so.

Flicky doesn't afford you the dignity of being frustrated, like other hard games. All you feel is grief; instead of crying out in anger, you moan the pitiful moan of one who lacks all comprehension. And then you don't even do that, because the game has made you a zombie and you can't remember what the point of anything is anymore.

Or maybe I just suck. I dunno.
It may no longer be the `90s, but there is still time for Klax.

Boy oh boy, if I had this option. I am doing Triple Play Gold, which is really just a roster update of this game. I chose to do the shortest possible season or 28 games. Technically you could simulate all the games and just play the world series, but its not like you're actually playing the game now are ya?

To be clear, I'm not advocating one way or the other for that single game of TP '96 to count as having beaten the game. If the consensus here is that the victory is invalid and that completing at least some sort of season is required, that's perfectly fine with me. I'm just trying to get a clear handle on what the requirements are for specific sports games, like this one and RBI '94, before I fully commit to them.

While I'm not much for team sports games (except the occasional game of baseball), I still enjoy 8- and 16-bit tennis games quite a bit. And I'd definitely rather play a 8- or 16-bit baseball or basketball game than a more recent release, partly because I enjoyed that era of the sport more anyway.

I think sports games get a bad rap partly because there are so many of them, and also because a lot of them seem like little more than yearly roster updates (whether that's true or not).

I don't think a season is required, but unfortunately we're encumbered by a general lack of knowledge about these games and their endings, since there's no document like AdamL's NES and SMS endings guides to tell us. One of the unstated aims of this project is to figure out what those requirements are, one game at a time.

(Take Andre Agassi Tennis, where there's no real information about the game online. After checking it out I found out that if you max out your player's stats you get a special screen that gives you a secret code, but otherwise there's no ending -- you can win every match and get #1 in the world, and you won't get anything but unceremoniously dumped back to the title screen. OTOH, I don't know yet whether the Championship mode in Davis Cup Tennis will offer any kind of ending; winning the Davis Cup event didn't.)

Anyway, my basic stance is that if you get a substantive ending like the one you got, it should probably count unless someone knows differently. It'd be a shame, in other words, to take the time to play through the whole season and just get the exact same ending you got.

But it's so slippery: what's the difference between a single-game Exhibition mode (which doesn't usually offer a "real" ending and shouldn't normally count) vs. a game that lets you go straight to the championship series and happens to allow you to customize it to be just one game long, and gives you a proper ending? You could say it's just semantics, but I actually think it's a question of figuring out the game's intent.
