I'm not going to formally "cancel" them in a blanket way, but if anyone really wants one of the games marked in red, I think it's now safe to go for it (as long as you're willing to start working on the game and post updates as appropriate).

The Coop, I know you wanted Slaughter Sport, and another poster was asking after Trouble Shooter. I sent Curryman123 a PM over a week ago, but didn't hear back, so I guess he's lost interest and those can be fair game.
All righty then. Add Slaughter Sport to my list, and I'll knock it out so no one else has to suffer

And just to re-mention it, if Lightening Force gets opened up again, I'd love to claim it. It's one of my favorite Genesis games of all time.

As for F-15, I'll review that one after Steel Talons' is done (it's well underway at nearly two pages thus far). After that, I may review Super Battletank, since I beat that one and it's not been reviewed yet either.

In that case, I'd like to claim OutRun since the SST Band rocks! Also, I am working on a few unnamed/unclaimed sports games for a change of pace. (I have no faith in myself as a sports gamer, which is why I'd rather not formally claim them until I get better at them) Hoping to knock off at least one this weekend.

I haven't followed this thread very much lately as I've been rather busy with WM, but today Bad Omen became... a Good Sign? Or is Devilish: The Next Possession now the Godly: The Last Loss? I don't know. I think I must pass on James Pond for now. That missile reef really demotivated me and I'm as said very busy. Sorry about that.

I picked up some "new" games so I want to add to my claims list:

Clue - I have never played this one before, another game that is way outside my comfort zone. The one that I got is like brand new! I have played the old board game before a couple of times when I was a kid. I'm going to play it anyways so I want to claim it for the challenge.

In addition, I'm going to add a few more sports games to my list:

ESPN Speed World - I have never played this before, looks interesting.
NBA Action 94 - I have not played this in twenty years!
NBA Live 98 - I think I had signed up to review this game for Sega-16 at one point so I might as well claim it, too.

    Thanks!

    Slaughter Sport
    killed my inner child.

This game sucks. Plain and simple. There are basically no redeeming qualities about it, and Razor Soft should be both ashamed, and held accountable in a court of law, for releasing it.

If you're saying what I think you're saying, then absolutely not. From the first page:

Q: What's this about "claiming" games?

A: Posters are allowed to pick 2 games that they're going to begin working on, and informally "reserve" them so no one else inadvertently starts working on the same game. [...] However, if you "claim" a game and you don't post about it for 3-4 weeks, it automatically goes back into the pool.

Once again, claiming a game means "I'm going to immediately start working on this, and will post updates, so please don't start working on it too". It's a courtesy, not a certificate of ownership, and its value is as a promise to your fellow posters that you'll do your best to take care of a game so they can direct their attentions elsewhere. It's definitely not meant as a way to put games you like "on hold" so you can pull them out when you feel like it in a few weeks.

I'll get to playing through my 2 games today and tomorrow, after I finish making my dinner.

I bested OutRun last night. I completed it on all 5 final courses so I could get the ultra-spiffy secret ending.

While it's obviously lacking compared to the arcade original, it's a decent conversion. It retains the music (Passing Breeze all the way!) and the fun factor, which are the most important aspects to me. It's really not too hard to clear; the real key of the game is to get good at down shifting to low as you go into steeper curves, and then push it back up to high as soon as possible (rather than braking). This strategy probably works in a lot of other racing games, but I don't play many racing games, so that's the extent of my knowledge on the subject.

S3&K done, at least with one character combination :

Score should indicate that this is a single sitting playthrough, no saves were used to say so.

    Some bonus shots :

You were so right! One of the "new" games I just picked up was Steel Talons (for $1.99). It does have more detail and clearer sounds than the Lynx version. But even though it's still slow, the Lynx version seems faster and more responsive to the controls than the Genesis version. I guess I'd play it on the Lynx if forced to choose but there are many better 'copter games out there than either of these.

Raiden Trad just got served, bad.

When people talk about ports of the original arcade game, this version tends to get trashed more often than not. I however, always liked it. It actually has an ending, an extra stage, some good music, it has the feel of the original game, and other than missing some visual extras and being a bit color-challenged, I always felt it was a pretty solid port overall.

No rhyming pun for this one. Sub-Terrania's one of those games that punishes you with its challenge, but never makes it feel unfair. Its music, visuals and gameplay are all good, but it makes you learn the layout of the stages if you want to have a real chance at winning. Shame it never got a sequel.

Good gravy! I *was* taking on Jennifer Capriati Tennis (unclaimed) for this, but I may have to put it aside for now and leave it to someone more well-versed in sports games. See, to win career mode, you have to play through 4 different tournaments with 3 opponents each. You need to win at least 6 matches to take a set in a tournament, so for those keeping score, that means at least 54 matches, and that's assuming you sweep them (an overly lofty assumption). Anyway, since the game has a password feature, I just kind of assumed you would get one once you cleared a tournament....Unfortunately, that's not the case at all. Apparently the password feature is there just for cheat codes. I found this out quite rudely after making it to my second opponent in the third tournament and losing.

The game is a lot of fun, but two things annoy the crap out of me: 1) The serve box is ridiculously small. The opportunities to have a serve go OOB or hit the net are tremendous. 2) There's some weird controls here at work in that tapping the button causes you to hit the ball, but holding it down for even a fraction of a second causes your player to go into some kind of stupid lob stance (not sure if that term is correct; I'm not a tennis player/viewer). Hit the ball this way, and it'll go careening into the net every time. I honestly don't understand why this is even in the game. I seem to trigger it accidentally a lot when I'm on the "top" side of the net (and never on the bottom for some reason).

Has anyone ever actually completed career mode? I'm sure it can be done; I'm just not certain I have the patience to do it myself.

I'm off to a good start with Buck Rogers: CtD. I've completed the first three missions. I'm a big fan of the Goldbox games, and so far, this is proving to be a surprisingly decent adaptation, and a pretty good game in its own right. The difficulty is all over the map though. The game, seemingly like all the Goldbox games, is very fond of throwing you into what are, essentially, no-win situations.

Sorry that I don't know this, but is that counting against Sonic 3, or Sonic & Knuckles? I assume it's Sonic 3, and QuickSciFi was pretty adamant that using the lockout shouldn't count as beating Sonic 3 since it makes the game shorter. But I personally don't have a problem with having Sonic 3 & Knuckles as a joint "extra", i.e. separate from beating Sonic 3 on its own.

By "matches", do you mean games? In other words, 4 tournaments, 3 opponents per tournament, 1 set per match, and 6 games per set? If so, that's only 12 sets, which is actually not too bad -- it's fewer than what both Davis Cup and Andre Agassi require in a single sitting. Davis Cup requires 15 sets in one sitting to win a Grand Slam event, and 20 sets to win the Davis Cup (though you can forfeit 8 of those); Andre Agassi requires 32 sets to beat the game, with (I believe) no passwords.

That said, I read that when you beat Capriati, you get a password to play against a second set of tougher opponents, so I don't know the details. But no rush on the tennis games, at least as far as I'm concerned -- that's the one sports genre I'm genuinely enthusiastic about, though Andre Agassi isn't exactly stoking that fire.
