Ugly, but functional, and RGB is a big plus
Thanks. It's a famicom, it was born ugly.

There's a very good chance my toaster was retarded.

The original famicom case is terrible and you can't get the pcb to fit in an av famicom case. The av famicom is soooo sexy it just needs the audio circuit redone.

BTW I love sushi-sumo japan I bought so many loose famicom carts from them. Not only is the seller name just a couple of stereotypical japanese things they have such a great selection for very fair prices.

I also recommend if you're a tmnt fan pick up tmnt and tmnt 2 for the famicom (these are what tmnt 2 and tmnt 3 were numbered as in japan). Do not get Gekikame Ninja Den. Anyway tmnt 2 / 3 on the famicom are actually better than the nes versions the difficulty is a bit more fair and tmnt 3 they added a whole options menu.

Looking around, I think I got one hell of a steal on that boxed Famicom 3D System - $35 + shipping. On ole' eBay, the cheapest I see it going for is $150

I really want one of those twin units and to play Zelda (For the first time mind you, never played not even once) and get the extra sound track from the disk system and the microphone in the controller to make loud noises, a poles voice I believe to scare characters on the tv.

What a tease! My Famicom Disk System arrived today, with a boatload of games, and my Famicom 3D Glasses are apparently in Houston waiting to be delivered tomorrow... but no Famicom! I've been playing some of the carts on my top-loader NES using a JPN->US adapter, but I want to play with the real famicom. I've heard you can connect the disk system to a US NES using an adaptor, but it's bad for the cart because it lays at an angle, so I don't want to try it out yet.

The famicom disk system is fascinating. Visually, it looks almost exactly like the MSX Disk System, albeit with a different shaped cart and different colors. The disks, which are smaller than I expected, slide in cleanly. The disks have some notches cut into the nintendo logo - the N and E are sunk in which I think is to make sure it's a genuine FDS disk.

I'll throw up some pics when I get home.

I also got a bunch of issues of Diehard Gamefan today in the mail, too.

So looking at the FDS, it seems you can run the thing off of like 10 C batteries and according to claims online, it'll last 10 months of constantly play. That's insane!

I don't particularly care for Famicom, but the NES's 30th Anniversary is coming up in 2015 or 2016. That I will be happy to see.

Really? The famicom does everything the nes does and more, and it's a top loader. Lately I've started collecting famicom games with enhanced audio chips and in the carts and been converting the ones I can to english.....for fun. Yes the powerpak can recreate the audio of these chips but it sounds noticably different. I sold my nes as a kid because I was frustrated with the zif system, but I've never had any issues with a famicom.
